House Democrats Claw Back New York Seats As Race For Chamber Continues

Because Democrats SUCK at messaging. The right is brilliant, no shame at all in calling a clear-cutting bill “Healthy Forests.” But we write great bills, call them stupid names even lawyers cringe at, then let the fuckers who voted against it take the credit.

Warren Lays Out The Plan To Fight Back Against Second Trump Presidency

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) laid out a plan to fight the second Trump presidency in a Time essay published Thursday afternoon.

Just like the last go around, Warren says Senate Democrats should do everything they can to fight “radical Trump nominees.”

“We asked tough questions and held the Senate floor for hours to slow down confirmation and expose Republican extremism,” Warren recalls about the first Trump presidency. “These tactics doomed some nominations entirely, laid the groundwork for other cabinet officials to later resign in disgrace, and brought scrutiny that somewhat constrained Trump’s efforts.”

Isn’t the factor that the GQP now holds the Senate somewhat important here? Sure, the Dems were able to hold out on some of the noms, but now, with 52-53 seats in GQP hands, how does Warren propose the Dems are gonna stop anything? Whomever is the GQP leader (as it won’t be McConnell) will be a Trumper through and through. That person will not suffer the Dems antics for one moment.

That is to say, if you think Amy was confirmed fast, wait’ll you see what happens with the next SCOTUS nom and pretty much every other nom to come. The judiciary will be red for decades.

I actually think people do listen; but they’re all listening to different things.

The Big Three broadcasters are gone forever, and even the Big Three cablecasters aren’t “big” anymore. Technology shattered media into (literally) a million fragmentary web pages, podcasts, and chat rooms. I’m not sure the concept of “mass media” even makes sense moving forward.

We like to think every voter has access to the same information we do, but it just ain’t so. Every voter has their own trusted sources for “news” and “information” – and those increasingly are private, curated, and algorithm-driven.

Our own biases convince us “Trump’s evil plans were out there for anyone to see!” is valid, and “How could anyone NOT know?” is rhetorical – but most people don’t watch nightly news broadcasts, don’t listen to analysts on cable, don’t read newspapers or magazines (not even online), and sure as hell don’t engage with TPM.

As technology (and I truly think unquestioning acceptance of tech is a form of contemporary religion akin to a cult) has decimated mass-media into an amateur free-for-all, we’re all seeing and believing – most (probably) in good faith – whatever we consume on a daily basis in our own isolated bubbles, reinforced by people who seem to make sense, and whom we trust (on the mere basis of familiarity, if nothing else, because that’s what we’ve always done as a species).

IMNSHO, social science and evolutionary biology make it clear that people do listen to explanations, even now. It’s just that they’re listening to (and trusting) different explanations than the ones we hear and trust.

A certain number of people undoubtedly are idiots or willfully ignorant; many, many more process information just fine – but garbage in, garbage out. Solving the infinite number of realities in which Americans now live, in which trusted news and information are vastly different and contradictory and even lethal, from bubble to bubble, is a helluva challenge.

(And one for which I got no easy answers.)

The current administration has 2 months to go. Why can’t the Biden DOJ void the memos before his term ends?

Exactly! Dollar short & a day late.
I am now reconsidering how to support 47th administration/policies to best support my fellow Americans who voted to give Trump mandate.

I can support mass deportation of illegal immigrants including “dreamers”. Send them all back, dump them in their home countries like DeSantis &TX did to NY & MV. Let’s show the world how the convicted felon enforces Americas immigration laws. Send. Them. Back.

Many of the illegal immigrants work in big business plants like chicken producers in AK, along with small business restaurants in NY & FL & AZ & the casinos in NV….deport all the illegal workers. Force the capitalists to pay fair wages, get the homeless off the street, force landlords to lower rents to match 30% monthly of annual minimum wages.

Let the capitalists bear brunt of mass deportation. Boost job opportunities for American workers.

Mass deportation will certainly be great for the economy. snark.

Ak house race.

Not a lot of clear numbers one source says 97% counted but the sane sorce shows a chart with only 76% counted

All of the late incoming ballots are from rural ak, I know ha ha ha, but most of them are from native communities which should be supporting Portola

We are rank choice so if Nether get better then 50% it house to the second tier ranking.

None of the numbers are clear or final. Especially California’s votes.
Repeating a comment I posted elsewhere:
Sorry to say this, but Harris should have at least waited to concede until California’s votes were tallied and reported. It was bad faith to concede when she did. She ran a great campaign until she did not wait for the end.

Serious Question: Would it have been so bad if she did NOT concede? Trump NEVER conceded after 2020. Conceding is not required, it’s one of those norms that Trump and his supporters discarded. Why do Democrats concede? All she had to do was wait. Say nothing. When asked if she’s going to concede she should have answered, “I don’t know. The investigations aren’t finished. Trump said the election was rigged. Maybe he was right. It certainly looked rigged. Look at Georgia and other red states. Republican governors and secretaries of state struck millions of voters, especially in cities, from the voter rolls. Republicans cheated. You’ll just have to wait. Perhaps until the votes are certified. Maybe you must wait forever.” Repeat until the reporters stop asking. Why? Give humpty trumpty and his supporters a taste of his own medicine. Shove his own words back down his wrinkled old throat. Give the guilty Republican governors and secretaries of state reason to check their underwear for brown tracks.

Harris showed bad faith to her voters by conceding before the votes were tallied. Never concede. Never give up. Never surrender.

The problem with illegal immigration in this country has always been the lack of enforcement of the laws preventing AMERICAN employers from HIRING undocumented workers. Migrants come here to get jobs. No jobs, no migration. Yet NEITHER party has the cajones to fine or jail business owners who knowingly hire these workers. We need a national citizen ID card and stringent sanctions on employers or nothing will change.

Will Trump finally do it ? Absolutely not - he blames the migrants who he will try to deport. But sure as water fills the void of a paddle pulled out of its depth, NEW migrants will flow in to fill the new jobs.

In addition, you can bet there are many, many lobbyists for the Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable who will vigorously work to undermine Trump’s deportation policies. They want and need low cost labor for many jobs Trump’s working class base will not do.

Trump will acquiesce because he KNOWS who greases the palms of his party, and because he also hires many illegals to service his customers at Mar-A-Lardo, his hotels and his golf courses.

It is impossible to stop migrant crossing the border unless the incentive to migrate is eliminated by American employers. Walls, border checks and every other measure Trump and ICE people propose to use are utterly useless unless you address the incentive to work in America without authorization.

The answer is LEGAL immigration and a more efficient process for clearing qualified migrants for work here via Green Cards. But, of course, nobody in the GOP wants to acknowledge this, because their base does not approve ANY immigration.

We are here because we are inherently conflicted and the government can’t level with the American people. That failure just cost Harris an election and saddled the country with a fucking moron, criminal and traitor as the 47th Presidency.

We are truly pathetic - and getting more so by the day.

We agree.

Which is why I am happy to support mass deportation as it is the business owners who will fight Trump. The capitalists will not fund him when he dries up cheap labor nor support increase in minimum wage. Let the folks who bankrolled him into office face their own consequences. Tariffs & mass deportation are a double whammy for businesses in agriculture, poultry production & construction as well as service industry where most illegal immigrants work.

Can the judge in the NY case at least sentence Trump to confinement in the White House when he is not required to be somewhere else for his job; and absolutely no golf!

I fully intend to continue wearing my Kamala merch. It is all very attractive and cheerful. Screw them and their obnoxious red caps, which they wore for the entire last administration, during trials etc, etc. At least I won’t be wearing the equivalent of a flag that says: “Look at me!!! I’m really stupid and tRump will make everything wonderful for people like me.”

Here’s the thing - we are playing on the GOP’s ball field on either blaming the economy or blaming the Harris campaign for Trump’s victory, when the REAL reason is simple ancient racism. White America could not stand for a SECOND person of color in THEIR WHITE HOUSE. It’s WHITE for a reason. In 2024 we try to be so polite about something we KNOW is true - we are not nature enough as a society to embrace diversity. We don’t have the guts to let go of our insecurities and our prejudices and now we are blaming the victims for why we just elected a racist, felon and a fascist to the WH over a much better qualified black woman candidate. Prof. Eddie Glaude who has spent a lifetime studying and writing on this very subject brought to the surface on Stephanie Ruhle’s “11th Hour” Roundtable on Friday evening;

“Princeton University professor Eddie Glaude Jr. dismissed voter concerns such as the economy on MSNBC Friday, instead blaming Vice President Kamala Harrislosing to president-elect Donald Trump on a desire among the electorate to preserve “Whiteness.”

Glaude sparred with network host Stephanie Ruhle on the issue, concluding race played a major factor in Donald Trump’s stunning victory on Friday’s edition of The 11th Hour.

Ruhle said she did not necessarily disagree with Glaude but opined she felt some Americans were put off by the “identity politics” of the left and the economy was also a major factor in Trump’s win.

Glaude disagreed and commented that he believed a majority of Americans ultimately voted for Trump because they sensed that “whiteness” was being threatened.

“So there’s this sense, right, that whiteness is under threat – the demographic shifts. The country is – all of these racially ambiguous children on Cheerios commercials are confusing the hell out of me,” he said.

Ruhle replied, “Eddie, a lot of people voted because their life’s too damn expensive.”

Glaude fired back, “You’re telling me, Stephanie, that all of these people who believe that their lives are – that bread is too high and eggs are too high – that they voted for a convicted felon, a guy who said we can grab the P?” Ruhle replied:

I’m not defending it, but I

think there are tons of people that don’t pay attention to – and I’m not defending it – don’t pay attention to politics at all. But while we live in the most prosperous country in the world, people are saying life’s not fair. I’m not doing well. My son’s still living in the basement. I can’t seem to get a job. I don’t like the status quo. I’m voting for something else.

Glaude concluded:

I do not believe that. I cannot believe that. And the reason I think you believe it is because you don’t want to believe that that’s what’s really motivating them. It’s always the case. We people don’t want to believe what the country actually is because if they believe that, they don’t have to confront what’s in them. I don’t believe that. They voted for a crook, a person who they know is doing everything to undermine the so-called country that they love. And then they’re telling us the BS, that it’s economics. We know that’s not true. We know it’s not true. And we’ve got to raise our kids in this sh*t.”

Glaude is right. The Democratic Party’s disagreement with both the GOP and the half of the Electorate that voted for the fucking moron felon fascist is on MORALITY, not economics or politics.

am white and I fully acknowledge what really happened in 2024 election. It had nothing to do with the price of bread or eggs. Those are simply excuses or b b and face lies. Harris lost because she was too black and too female. Prof. Glaude is just the first to hold the mirror up to our faces. It is our job as white Americans who believe in Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence to hold the same mirror up to our friends and neighbors. We should also point out that OUR white ancestor’s enjoyed hanging black people from trees for sport. The least we can do is to stop acting like ReThugs and lying to ourselves about it. We need to show some contrition and humility for our sordid history in how we treat our fellow men, and remember that we all came from the same rift valley in Eastern Africa many thousands of years ago.
