Hours Away, Government Shutdown Seems Inevitable

Oh, don’t you worry. He loves some sin. And he certainly hates us sinners.

wtf are Democrats meeting with Trump? The Democratic proposal will help Republicans by delaying the damage they want to do to their voters’ health insurance. Dems need to let Republicans vote for what they want. Just let reporters know that Dems are in D.C, ready to go to the floor and vote on their bill and on our bill. “Dems have a great proposal to keep the government open and save voters’ healthcare and Dems are ready to vote.” What else needs to be said? Let them shut down the government on their watch. Dems need to stop giving Republicans a way out and just let them fail (even better if Republicans want to end the filibuster (its already dead anyway) and steamroll through everything they want). When voters get tired of a government run by chaos clowns, they can start to vote for the responsible adults.

The “we’re going to fire everyone if we don’t get our way” is not the winning argument they believe it to be

That statement from Kennedy :eyes:

It better make it clear to D leadership that Rs in congress are along for the ride. “Just lay down and let it happen” and “Don’t make us do this” are a heck of a message.

Hegseth is quoted as saying he doesn’t want “fat generals and admirals.” How about a fat Commander in Chief, Petey Boy?? What about that??

In other news, Secretary of War Rex Kwon Do, a retired Major in the US Army Reserves, addressed his top subordinates, mostly Generals and Admirals with far more battle experience and education than Kwon Do, on the finer points of the Warrior Ethos. Today’s session was free to all in attendance but Kwon Do made it clear that his full 8 week seminar would set them back $300 a piece.

With that soft, reassuring confident voice and hand on your shoulder, dude has groomer written all over him. And then he sits you down on the couch … for more reassuring. Creeped out yet? LOL!

Hegseth praised Norman Schwartzkopf as a model. Unfortunately, Pete probably would fit Schwartzkopf’s critique of self-absorbed fools who

had no sense of duty or honor, and who saw the world through an alcoholic haze.

Yet again “Both” shows us that this isn’t fixable.

It’s easier to say “Both” b/c you not taking a position. And in not taking a position, you don’t have to defend it.

ETA: Yeah, just realized, you’re right. Kinda comes back to … can’t fix stoopid.

But this is something we’ve known for a long time and it’s been getting worse with bigger and bigger issues. Government can’t function if one side of a governing body doesn’t abide by what was agreed to. It just can’t. tRump might as well rule by edict, which is where we’re headed with the blessing of SCOTUS. At some point, and I know it’s wishful thinking, Democrats need to take a stand. If it results in what’s left of our government burning down, so be it.

I’d answer a poll “Republican”

But obviously democrats weak positioning for decades is part of the problem

This is what needs to happen. The GOP has the votes to pass whatever they want. They own all three branches of government. The only thing stopping them is the senate filibuster, for which they need votes from Democrats in order to proceed. Make Republicans change the rules. Eliminate the filibuster for everything. Pretty simple.

I think this is correct. US voter participation is very low compared to, say, Nordic countries. The risk is that political identification can harm your job and advancement possibilities. Also you can be dead ignorant and pretend to be aloof. Many Americans do not own passports and haven’t traveled much outside the US. Inside the bubble, low participation in civic life seems easy. Notably, autocracies find information bubbles to their advantage. The leader can blame inconvenient information on imagined enemies, even when the leader or his party have caused the inconvenience.
