Abolishing the filibuster would do McConnell no good as long as Biden is president and able to veto destructive legislation coming out of a Republican-controlled Senate and House. Only if Trump or DeSantis (etc.) is President will it suit McConnell to do away with the filibuster, which in that case would indeed be the Democrats’ only hope for slowing down or blocking the damage.

Hogan Officially Says No Thanks To Senate Run In McConnell Snub
Obviously he has read the studies that show if you continue to use your brain you can stave off dementia and other ills of old age. At least as Governor he has to think about things, if he were to leave for the Senate he would only need to be able to read his opinion as penned by Mitch and the GOP.
