Yup and “importation” is the wrong word. It should be “re-importation” because most of the drugs Americans are going to Canada for were made in the USA and shipped to Canada where they were subsidized by the government for the benefit of their citizens. Americans are being forced to go to Canada for their meds because the Canadian government has “socialized” medicine and believes having a healthy population trumps massive corporate profits.
“Hohn Hohn, mes amis. Come on up aux Canada. ‘Ave a glass of Fin du Monde while you do ze steeck, eh?”

P-L-E-A-S-E, do not believe the healthcare hypocrites!
Been there done that!
Trump/Russo-Rs are grandstanding to get votes then reneg later.
DO NOT be distracted or gaslighted that Trump/Rs cares about Americans healthcare system unless it gets them money & votes!
False propaganda attacks like Death Panels undercut ACA (Rs who are recipients of ACA proudly proclaimed they DO NOT want Obamacare but want ACA), Trump/Rs attempted to remove pre-existing conditions coverage on ACA, Trump/Rs NOT defend ACA in court and Trump/Rs not using the purchasing power of the govt to lower cost of drug prices!
Trump can only make a point if he has a foil. In his mind, he has to insult to ‘win’.
I hope he fails to take his meds . . . . .
so, rather than work to lower what manufacturers charge for drugs in the USA, he wants Americans to import drugs from other countries.
Which is great, if you are a Canadian drug store. But I thought that “America First” meant supporting American businesses, not foreign ones.
Has tRumps incredible HHS told Canada and U.S. drug CEO’s about this yet ? It has a very distinctive Trump smell to it.
Remember, he and the Republicans will come up with the bestest healthcare plan, right after he wins. I am sure the details on really lowering prescription drug prices will be laid out then. Wait till you see the health care pamphlet they put out then. It will be real cool, tri-fold and glossy so you know it will be primo.
Sheesh, “doing big things is hard.”
“Nobody knew healthcare could be so complicated” so it is best to outsource things rather than fix issues here in the USA. The trumps are best at outsourcing, “be best”.
Flunky of the guy who called Elijah Cummings racist, blames Canada for American drug prices.
And of course trumps HHS circus act is well aware that Canadian drug costs go only to Canadian citizens.
Great if you live in Detroit or Seattle, where it’s an easy day trip to Canada. Not so great in San Diego or El Paso, where running an errand to Mexico is a giant clusterfuck.
HHS’s announcement …“outlines the pathways the Administration intends to explore to allow safe importation of certain prescription drugs”
HHS announced a ‘concept’ that is no way near being an actual plan. Edited to add: WP just reported the FDA claiming they need 3-year to work ways around current legal impediments.
This set-up is ripe for unbridled graft. Drug companies will be eager to use deep pockets to influence HHS’s decisions, just in time for 2020 campaigns.
What Drug makers fear is that once Medicare negotiates a price, private insurance with hold drug makers to that same price.
And drug makers know that the only folks with lobbyists as well connected as their own is the private health insurance lobby.
I think Medicaid does negotiate on drug prices, but not Medicare - Medicare Part D from the Bush administration prohibits it.
Yes, like when a year ago they wanted to blame pharmacy benefit manager for high drug prices.
Then how did those people get the insulin so cheap? Are prices for canadians even better that the “10% of American prices” the people that Bernie took to canada paid?
Let’s call it the caravan! The drug caravan!
not to mention Kansas or Missouri, which are about 1000 miles from any border…
(or to mention that i wouldn’t trust anything I bought from a Mexican border town pharmacy…)
How much more could be saved if direct negotiations with drug companies were allowed?
