There is no defense…

… … …
There will be another surge…count on it
Sadly Texas will lead the way.

My understanding is that many retail outlets are sticking with masks in those states which is good. But we may as well get ready for the more contagious British variant surge in Texas, Mississippi and Arkansas.

It’s going to get worse again before it gets better.

But Biden’s handling of the vaccination part of the virus is a hands-down winner.

The thing about letting people use their own “common sense” with regard to wearing masks and going to restaurants, etc. is that most people will guide their behavior by gauging their own vulnerability. That basically leaves the most vulnerable at the mercy of the least vulnerable, which is kind of the bedrock of Republican orthodoxy.

Gov Abbott’s defense has no legs. There, I said it.

Agree and while I’ve had my two Moderna shots, my behavior is not changing much. I won’t go to a restaurant yet, avoid crowds, and mask up even on my daily walk.

It is worth noting that many businesses in Texas are keeping mask mandates.

HEB, the largest grocery chain in Texas has reversed their early plan to not have masking rules and now are keeping the customer mask requirements.

Customer and competition pressure may be the reason they came around. Or, maybe they realized it was smarter to listen to the CDC than Greg Abbott.

We are still going to see confusion and battles at retailers thanks to Abbott needing to get out from under the stigma of the Deep Freeze and suck up to HIS base.

We are fully vaccinated but are planning to wear masks when out, and we don’t plan to visit any restaurants soon. I picked up some food last night at a local restaurant and was surprised at how many were walking in without masks.

This will get worse before it gets better. But it is getting better.

I’m happy to be here, but cringe when I see restaurant parking lots full of cars. Yet all the stores I frequent require masks and limit occupancy. Our gov is relaxing some restrictions, and hope we can see our numbers come down to where they were last summer. Texas, Florida, Miss, please stay home.

The way these Governor’s are throwing caution to the wind, we may start talking about a “Texas variant” soon enough.

Fingers crossed the Republican petri dishes don’t produce any vaccine resistant variants while doing freedom.

I actually trust Mississippians to make good decisions,” Reeves said,

How the hell am I supposed to trust Mississippians to make good decisions when the very Governor they selected won’t?

How about you all follow the advice of medical professionals? Seriously.

Just give us our freedom back and lift some of our mandates.

Does Asa realize he’s the governor of Arkansas?

Why is he using passive voice?

Definitely. And it looks like a lot of places are already in that mode. Drove by several places that were packed with people last night. Not sure what capacity level is in place currently, but it sure looked like they were at max business right now, not on the tenth. And we saw a lot of people heading in or out without masks. Those places are paying lip service and doing something different. Likely have been doing it for some time now.

Hmmm, I started attempting to get a vaccine shot in early February. It took a week of constant key pounding but I got one and when I did I felt an Act of God had happened. It was for March 5th. On the Sunday previous to that appointment I got a text that “due to supply limitations” my appointment was canceled. I’d rearranged stuff to make room too for that first shot. Canceled. Back to square one. After more anxiety, growing anger at the obvious incompetence on display I got a second appointment… For APRIL 9TH fully 5 weeks out at the time. What the ever loving fuck? OK, so now I do not trust Banner Heath to find their ass with either hand. Banner was the outfit designated by our county health dept to do this appointment and dosing. So, OK, what now? Do I act like a babe in the woods and take that leap of faith that Banner won’t run out of doses again because they cannot fucking count? BTW Pima County for the last two weeks has got 41,000 doses combined between Moderna and Pfizer and it is increasing. There are about 350,000 first responders, teachers and old farts who rate the shots so do the math. It’s not hard to plan this accurately except that people of any and all ages are trying to get shots. I am competing against a population of 1 million here. I did get a set of appointments thru CVS Pharmacy for March 12th and April 2nd for the Pfizer vaccine. Tomorrow I will cancel my Banner appointment.
I would not call my experience in getting a shot a “hands down winner” Maybe from Biden’s perspective yes it is, but not from mine. I have made the suggestion that Mr Biden take a fake name and give it a try here in Pima county, just to get a feel for “how easy peasy” it is. I am not bitter. I am angry at a truly epic level.
edit
In trying to get the Banner system to work I had appointments danged in front of me like golden rings but by the time I could fill out all the information requested the appointment would vanish. same at Walgreens, and a series of grocery store pharmacies as well as the 4 large sites here, CVS was the one that came thru simply because 13,000 extra doses showed up on their doorstep for next week. This is not right, rational or fair. It’s politics with people’s lives in the balance and I hate it.

Our governor did so nearly 4 weeks ago:

We hit 60 degrees today in North central MN. Woot woot!!
And we will hit 68 degrees on Tuesday. Shorts, flip flops and lawn chair time.
