I’ve read a few comments here and I think people (understandably) are latched onto the obvious hypocrisy of Trump’s fake religiosity. The larger point, I would argue, is that manipulation of White Protestants by these cynical thugs relies on wrapping their BS in the flag and religion and, notably, the visceral and powerful need to hate and otherize Jews, Catholics, immigrants and blacks.
I don’t think these “Evangelicals” are, at bottom, much different from the folks (~30% of men in Indiana in 1925) who found the monstrous Stephenson’s message compelling.

Kind of strange to me that these Christian nationialists are afraid to support Ukraine because of putin’s nuke threat. This shows what frauds they really are. They tell us that rapture and all of that second coming is coming but yet they fear death while allowing Ukrainians to cage fight the russians without their support. That picture shows how silly they are. Nothing to see there but a bunch of cowards worshiping the biggest con coward the US has known.
