Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) threw subtlety to the winds during a Thursday interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt, encouraging older federal conservative judges to take “senior status” and make room for a fresh batch.
"In his Thursday interview, Graham even acknowledged that “we changed the rules for the Supreme Court.”
If we take both chambers and Biden is elected, every single Dem Rep and Senator should use their floor time in support of adding seats to the SCOTUS to just play that clip over and over and over and over and over again for however many minutes they’ve been allotted…then end it with a clip of McConnell’s lies about letting the people decide and his subsequent admission that they’d fill the seat in an election year. Same video for everyone. Just play it and stand there smirking.
Wasn’t the “reason” McConnell refused to have hearings for Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court it was the final year of a presidential term. And Scalia didn’t resign he effin’ died. So now it’s OK to resign.
“Let the people decide” at the upcoming election was McConnell line.
GOP Flight Attendant (as Trump Air Flight 45 spirals toward impact): “Prepare for crash landing by placing the head between the knees. (Sigh.) Between your OWN knees, Sen. Graham!”
I’ll always remember in the days after 9/11 Hugh Hewitt proudly boasting that he was a “soldier” in the war on terror because he also worked in a high rise building in NYC!
While the efforts to conservative-ize the courts are not new, the GOP willingness to so openly describe the campaign is more recent.
One this conservative-sizing the federal courts has been a plan in the making since McConnell got the majority leader spot. During Obama’s 2 terms McConnell was actively trying to prevent Obama from not just filling Supreme Court seats, but keeping other federal judgeship seats open. And yes now Graham is saying the quiet part out loud. But I wonder if the federal judges appointed by prior Republican Presidents have moved so far right into the Republican looney tunes ranch?
It won’t happen, but wouldn’t it be nice if the judges Tweeted GFY to Graham, chairman of the Senate Judicial Committee?
Yes, but not only adding seats to SCOTUS, but also the circuit courts. Dems really need to buck up on this one because the Republican Party has shown us that there are literally no political consequences to doing so. None. Refusing to even speak to Garland didn’t hurt them in 2016, stacking the courts didn’t hurt their Senate prospects in 2018, and it will be one of the last reasons why they lose the Senate and presidency this year.
Exactly. And his naked attempt to draw judges into a political war (by openly advocating that they participate in a politicization of the courts) is a WTF moment, even for old Huckleberry…
