Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Thursday urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to hold a stand-alone vote on Democrats’ push for $2,000 COVID-19 stimulus checks after the new Congress begins on January 3.
It’s pretty easy to posture like this when you know nothing will actually happen…we’ll see if Graham has the same thing to say if Ossoff and Warnock win the GA races and Schumer brings the bill to the floor.
I’m beginning to think McConnell thinks the GOP is better served by suffering through 2 years as the minority so that riling their base will be easier for 2022.
Perhaps true, but the reality is there’s only one way to address the deficit and we’re going to take the blowback for it anyway, because we’re the only ones who would do it: raise taxes massively on the uber-wealthy.
Remember, this is a party that didn’t bother to make a platform. Think about that for a moment-they’ve totally abdicated even the pretense of standing for something.
This may be a more salient point than we have recognized. They had the Presidency and the Senate when they made they made the choice to stand for nothing at all in their posturing to the American people. It was the height of arrogance and vainglory to suggest that we needn’t know what their hierarchy of values looked like - just return them to power and trust them.
BULL! - Graham does not mean this … a stand-alone will not happen
…behind the scenes Grahan will tie killing 230 and … that investigation … and then of course if the Democrats win Georgia … then all bets are off …
Graham thinks like Trump - vote my way and you might get some rewards
… but deny me and you are dead to me .
That has to be in the mix, but we could also be making massive cuts in wasteful and unnecessary military spending. Starting with the ridiculous B-21 Raider program. I think it could get public support if Dems just worked harder to let people know how much we’re spending on stupid wasteful projects.
I know it’s an uphill battle in Congress due to the way contractors have spread out production in every district, but it’s a cancer on the national budget and we should at least try to do something about it. I think we’re past the point now where Dems need to be afraid of looking weak if they target military spending.
…and the best defense is to give up two years, fund raise off the “mess the Dems are making” and use it to defend those 22 seats while chipping away the 12 Dem seats…
