You know there was a time in our lives, or at least mine, when we were not obessed with who was going to be the parties (both) nominees untill after the summer.

He also said in his public statement that he isn’t suspending because of the allegations, but because the establishment structure has taken the money machine from him. Maybe he actually believes that die-hard supporters can and will be able to fund his rotting campaign?
Russia and Central Asia are essentially a black box for vehicles moved from Europe, including legitimate and shady transactions. Imagine the Finnish government’s surprise today when the coffin of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei was being driven around in an orange refrigerator truck of Finland’s largest supermarket conglomerate, K-Kauppa. Is all advertising really good advertising? In this case, the 2016 vehicle had been retired and was apparently sold by a German agent to a Jordanian buyer, who advertised it it through a facebook group a couple weeks ago. It apparently went to an Iraqi lessor, who rented it out to the Iranians. The Final Tour includes Tehran and Qoem in Iran, then Bagdad and Karbala and Najaf in Iraq, then back to Mashad in eastern Iran for burial. Of course it was a rental. A friend once did the 48 State Road Rally, which involves about a 1,000 miles a day of driving. The rental guy, who sold them “unlimited mileage” was a bit surprised when the came back with almost 11,000 miles on the odometer just two weeks later. Probably a similar kind of deal here.

IIRC, suspending a campaign means you get to hold onto the campaign funds, and can use it for a future campaign, donate to another candidate, set up a PAC, etc.
Platner has something like $2 million dollars in his campaign fund according to his last FEC filing. So yeah, it may be more about preserving money leverage than intending to restart his campaign.

And that’s another internal contradiction: he wails endlessly about ‘the Establishment,’ but it turns out they do something useful. Maintain voter rolls. Raise money. Have staffs of profesionals who know how to do things like fill out the paperwork and run tv commercials in complex markets. You know, the sort of thing you need knowledgable, established people to do. It’s like a teenager who doesn’t realize ice cream costs money until mom doesn’t pay for it any more.

I don’t mind his being awol. One less Republican vote in the Senate. And a law was passed in KY that the Democratic Governor cannot name his replacement, so it will be a Republican.

The only time people actually own up to shit is when there’s incontrovertible evidence shoved in their faces. Until then, they lie, they prevaricate, they try to avoid facing up to what they did. Especially when it’s something big. That’s just human nature.

how come nobody is asking why Bernie, Elizabeth Warren, Ro Kahanna et al endorsed Platner in the first place.. everyone whines about the average person not properly vetting candidates in the first place but when people who you should be able trust don’t do it then how in the hell can a concerned citizen do it?
can’t trust actual political leaders who should know better.. can’t trust MSM.. where are you supposed to get information to make a proper decision? 
I just want to note that neither AOC nor Zohran Mamdani endorsed Platner. Though yesterday, Mamdani also said that he does not endorse anyone outside of New York City.

Because it’s not exactly a big secret. They endorsed him because he had good policy positions and could obviously clear the field and hold public attention.
They pulled those endorsements as soon as they learned about this. They’re politicians, not omniscient demigods.

I am old enough to remember that. I also remember by the time Agnew and Nixon were both gone, Gerald Ford was President and the GOP voters and others didn’t scream about him not being elected to the post like that did over Kamala Harris.

He’s said things are being done to him -making him stop his campaign … a bit of word salad being tossed about…
Platner has until Monday to formally, in a documented “official” action - drop out.
But…
He really should get this genuinely officially closed out before end of business today… Thursday July 9, 2026.

yeah.. and hindsight is 20-20.. there were plenty of other warning signs.. like his possible NAZI tattoo..
people supported Fetterman in his election until he turned..
my real question is still, how do you get ALL the information to make a good decision.. not just policy positions but if they’re actually people you want to represent you outside of policy..
before the accusations came out there was uneasiness about him for other reasons but the rationalization was it’s either him or Susan Collins..

Probably the safest bet. There are those here that say if you aren’t from [State], you have no business endorsing. So he’s taking the safe route.
