Gov. DeSantis Falsely Claims COVID-19 Doesn’t Threaten Children

I get what you’re saying, but it seems like these people are cunning rather than dumb. They are sociopaths who know that they can get away with telling lies, as long as they fake stuff some people want to hear. Some people want to hear that their children will be safe, or that it’s okay to go to brunch again, or that their business can reopen. None of these things are true, sadly, but they want to hear them. DeSantis knows he can make money and wield office by filling that gap and lying in public. So he does.

Well…he’s been wrong about everything else…you can tell by his reluctance to READ and talk FACTS that he is a Trump Humper. Not a ‘curious’ bone in his … well…

It’s amazing to me that most liberals and especially the press hasn’t figured out ‘conservative speak’ yet. Liberals (and again especially the press!) continue to take these right-wingers at their word when they say these stupid shit, or anything really. But while the words DeSantis is saying sound as if he doesn’t think young people get it, that’s NOT what he’s really saying to conservatives. For conservatives DeSantis is saying ‘you shouldn’t care’ if young people get sick. He’s not a ‘moron’ (that much) he just has shitty morals.

The Right-wing uses a LOT of words and phrases that have a different meaning for them than they do for everyone else. Take “Birtherism” for instance, sure some really dumb people really did think Obama was born in Kenya, but for the rest it all just meant ‘he’s black so he’s not a “real” American’ who’s opinions matter.

Same thing happens with “fake news”. Sure some idiots crying ‘fake news’ are ignorant people who believe stuff is actual lies/false flags. But I think for most on the right ‘fake news’ is just a way of saying ‘I don’t care’. Hell many times on TV when Trump says ‘fake news’ it comes with a literal hand wave that says ‘who cares’. It’s a rhetorical cover for right-wing nihilism.

During the whole mail bombs thing a bunch of people and a few pundits on TV said it was a false flag. But the people who said ‘false flag’ don’t actually think this is all some manufactured stunt or that there really weren’t any bombs, THEY JUST DIDN’T CARE that there where bombs sent. But they can’t just come out and say that without sounding like a terrible person, so they use conservative speak ’fake news’ which to us just sounds dumb, but to others on the right just means ‘Don’t care’. I’ll bet Lou Dobbs didn’t actually think this was all some manufactured stunt, or that there really weren’t any bombs, HE JUST DIDN’T CARE that there where bombs sent.

Just like when the right said they’d only go after undocumented immigrants that ‘committed a crime’ many naive democrats took them at their word that they would only go after immigrants that had came here and then committed a crime, BUT for conservatives ALL undocumented immigrants have ‘committed a crime’ by definition.

‘Conservative speak’ while spoken in plain simple language is actually a virtue signaling code for right-wingers shitty ethics they hide in plain sight. When taken literally it sounds like stupid, but it’s really covering for immoral.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ( R ) wrongly asserted on Thursday that COVID-19 doesn’t pose any danger to people under 25 while he was making a case for having kids go back to school even as the virus continues to spread across the country.

Fucking Ignoramus Sez Wut???

Brilliant! While it’s true that kids are less likely to fall seriously ill or die, it sure isn’t the case that they are less likely to be able to carry or communicate COVID-19. So the only ones harmed by opening the schools are all the teaching faculty and staff, AND FAMILIES OF THE KIDS. Do these folks bother to think through the consequences?

Not only the false claim that the virus “doesn’t threaten children”, but total neglect of the fact that the virus can spread from household to household passed through the schools.

Considering he has people on staff who analyze and summarize information to keep him informed, it goes way beyond ignorance.

Apparently he must believe that children can survive on their own. Who is going to be dumb enough to send their child to a school (petri dish). Who is going to teach them. I believe it is darn hard to hear someone speaking behind a max. Are the people of FL that stupid or is he just talking to Senior.

He is not that mis-informed … he chooses to deliberately make false statements - because the audience that he wants to reach - wants to hear these statements presented as truths.

Exactly.

And not the only code for it. “Politically correct,” for example, was used to convey much the same message.

He’s addressing his base of voters.

Pleasing Trump is a welcome, and maybe even necessary, side-effect.
