That’s quite striking.
The Trump campaign is floundering at the moment, but it floundered through most of 2016 too. There were many points in that campaign where it looked like it would fall apart or just fade into irrelevance. However, Trump’s army of media figures on cable tv (they had actual Nazis on cable news defending him), the massive media coverage given to him, Trump’s willingness to step to the mic, plus the steady diet of Wikileaks/Russian propaganda sustained the campaign until Comey delivered the triggering blow which shifted the election.
Some things are different this time and some things aren’t. First, Trump is probably getting more overwhelming media coverage of his events than he did in 2016. His problem is he sucks at it. Drink Bleach is really a metaphor for how badly he’s blown all the free media. Second, there is no army of effective talking heads out there who are dominating news cycles like before. Third, while the Russians have done everything possible to stoke fire and division, their stuff has fallen flat. A big reason for this is better recognition by social media users. In addition, FB has done a good job of removing fake profiles, and Twitter has done a better job of policing stuff. Fourth, much of Trump’s media coverage now focuses on actual policies and that inevitably comes down to a discussion of abject failure. Fifth, Biden is a white man w/pedigree. That matters.
The question I have is if Trump’s media engine is so faulty, it can’t sustain him during his crappy spells. Does that impact his approval rating, put more states in play and lead to a worse election result than current polls predict? It’s possible. I mean just this week, he attacked Abraham Lincoln, praised chokeholds, talked nonsense about several topics, and couldn’t even lift his arm to drink water or walk properly. In 2016, the media and others applied deodorant to the rank odor that surrounds Trumpism. Now the odor overwhelms everything. I don’t think the polls showing him weakening in several of his strongest states (TN, AR, MO, OK) relative to 2016 represent coincidences. There is waning confidence in Trump.
Can’t speak for everyone but I met a guy once who had a hobby of collecting postmarks. JFC was he a boring guy.
The problem with these people is summed up in Lankford’s remarks,
"everybody needs to be able to take responsibility for their own health.”
No asshole, everybody needs to take responsibility for everyone’s health! It’s called a ‘social contract.’
You are not allowed to put me at risk without consequences. If you don’t wear a mask and take other precautions, then you are putting my health at risk - and I won’t allow you to do that.
Fuckers!
Since there’s no sports to bet on, does anybody have an “over and under” on the percentage of people who will wear masks?
Unconscionable, criminal, stupid beyond measure.
Just telling Baby Bunker what he wants to hear.
Grown men tiptoeing around a deadly pandemic to keep Trump happy. It is really something to see.
Yes, something.
With all the cheers, shouting, and jumping around, I would hazard a guess that symptom-less and pre-symptom carriers will pass the virus to 10 others during the rally, making for 2,000 to 3,000 new cases (some symtomless) in 14 days. If I were the mayor, I would tell Tulsans to sit this one out and let this be a problem for out-of-towners.
I wonder if they’ll allow the usual human props standing behind Trump to wear masks.
Yeah, that’s bullshit. I’ve seen no evidence to suggest that. Moreover, every hospital and ASC in my area requires a negative Covid-19 test before allowing the patient into the premises for elective surgery.
My father in law was just diagnosed with gastric cancer and he couldn’t get into MD Anderson to see a physician without a negative Covid test first.
I don’t understand where he’s even coming from, not just because it isn’t true, but I believe the ban on elective surgery earlier this year resulted in a significant reduction in economic activity.
Pick every third person in this picture and count them infected.
Then add three more for each of them.
Then three more. It can go on for a long time.
Many will never be the same, and of course, some will die.
I’ll take the under, and the undertaker will take the over.
I suspect those In the crowd that wear masks will be ridiculed.
They should claim they’re Covid 19 positive and fake a sneezing and coughing fit.
As someone said, the only thing the virus wants is to replicate. And our only job is to do everything to stop replication.
What the Trump campaign is doing is like rubbing raw meat all over your body, then entering a bear cage.
Yeah…my daughter’s a neurosurgeon, only non elective surgeries allowed for about 2 months here…really impacted her income. Don’t worry about her, tho, she’s doing fine!
MAGAts.
Better yet dump a well done steak and a bottle of ketchup on Trump, then release the bears.
There is no hope to convince the die-hard Trump supporters to vote for a Democrat. What will count on Nov 3 is getting Independents out to vote.
Good question. I’m going to go with that pesky cellophane window that gets in the way just as the calculation gets good.
What kind of fool out there wants four more years of this? I realize the wealthy and the grifters are in for the long run, because they will survive. But that’s a really small percentage of the voters.
How much more chaos can people handle? Do they really want to find out?
