Behold the power of good cop bad cop dissonance; the cronies get to walk back his stupid shit while he gets to continue pretending that he’s helping to “Liberate Michigan” etc.
We are a nation of spoiled little brats. What we think of as “rights” are actually merely privileges. Those privileges can be taken away from time to time due to bad weather, disasters, diseases, etc. Adults grin and bear it. While spoiled little brats whine.
I’m looking forward to when some citizen tries to sue their governor because they can’t go watch Fast and Furious 14 at a disease-infested theatre.
The case will be thrown out so fast, it’ll hit the filers in their asses on their way out of the court.
Certainly not the rational actors we’ve heard so much about and on whom the foundation of Austrian economics rests.
My wife said OK about going to her good friend’s 50th birthday party yesterday. It was lovely out. We haven’t been anywhere in 2 months. She thought we were the only ones invited and we could manage to do the distancing dance. I was not happy, and really pretty mad when I saw other cars in their driveway. Instead 4 or 5 other couples were also there. Hosts and all other attendees were NOT wearing masks, were going into the house, preparing a Brats feed, some were hugging, they had just returned from the bars, etc. We set our chairs upwind at least 10 feet from everyone. Did not put on our masks, even though we had them with us. Mine around my neck, wife had hers in her purse. We stayed an hour + and left before the food was ready. We never touched anything, and only drank a couple beers from our 6 pack. On the way home had to stop at the Kwik-Trip, my wife went in wearing her mask and I watched as every single person going in and out…not ONE mask.
This crap from Reopen NC makes my blood boil. Listen to these freaks, their off-the-wall rationales. Logic completely absent. This is only happening with D governors. When R governors have the same basic rules in place, there is no RWNJ explosion of rallies and protests. Oh, they are so concerned in NC that the governor isn’t following the VERY LETTER OF HIS OATH…but any R governor can do anything, and of course we know that Chump has violated every single tenet of his oath. But not a peep for 4 years on that score. A medical emergency with some strong precautions turns into a New World Order bent on enslaving them…yet everything that Bush/Cheney did to surveil them and torture them…and everything Chump has done to destroy their country, constitution, oaths, and dispossess them of wealth is A-OK
No, let 'em lick the toilets. Faster, please.
I have been pretty vocal. And a friend of ours runs a veggie market, and wouldn’t wear a mask. He knows I won’t be back.
As a social experiment I can say with certainty, this is how it would play out.
Say you have some kind of gathering that can’t be avoided after lockdown has been lifted. You aren’t jammed into a tight spot, and can sort-of keep your distance. Half the people show up wearing masks, the other half have them but aren’t wearing them. By the end of the gathering, some folks may have taken their masks off, but NONE of the non-masked group will have put theirs on. This isn’t so much a left-right thing, as a weird kind of pressure and nobody knows the proper etiquette, this is a new social thang and folks just aren’t polished at performing it.
Arms to bear…worked out great at Ruby Ridge and Waco. Death cults are not known for their critical thinking skills.
May 5. “The people of our country should think of themselves as warriors.”
May 6. “This is a mobilisation against a war. In many ways, it is a tougher enemy. We do very well against the visible enemies. It is the invisible enemy. This is an invisible enemy. But we’re doing a good job.”
May 24, Memorial Day Weekend. 100,000 dead. “Now watch this drive.”
Well I was wrong, and proved wrong in record-time. It isn’t ONLY D governors that are being attacked by RWNJ. Just mostly. But not solely. If the R governor had declared that all liberals must be tattooed and wear arm-bands…no problem. But her bar is suffering!
Well, finally, there’s at least a minimum of sense. The knee-jerk support of Trump’s nutcase edicts is dissipating, and they’re kind of … thinking. Now… how can we achieve reopening of businesses? Hmm. It’s like their problem-solving abilities are returning.
If the masks are properly cared for–and of the paper type–that means about 300 million a week. It’s a good idea, but not gonna happen any time soon.
Agree. It really is stupefying but I’m glad to be hiding out in NC with a “D” governor. For the most part people are staying home here (south of Charlotte) but I saw a husband and wife walking out of a popular always crowded creamery here (as I was driving by). enjoying an ice cream. And mom was giving some to their newborn, facing her. And yes, no one was wearing a mask.
I had to laugh though, you and wife at the party, sitting there trying not to look too anxiety ridden, hoping no one approaches. And then an old friend half in the bag sees you and winds up chasing you around the yard looking for a big hug. And your wife can’t help but laugh but at the same time is freaking out. Sorry, has that Woody Allen movie feel to it, And if you stayed much longer, it might have happened. People.
I can promise you that the majority of folks in DArkansas are not following A$A!!’$ advice on wearing masks. He’s all talk on that shit.
But wait! What’s this?
It came close to folks who might have rushed up for hugs. We pre-emptively waved and said hi, but others were getting/giving hugs and it was getting close to having to do the squirm/evasive maneuvers which would have been embarrassing. But I would have done it…no hugs for folks I haven’t seen in 2 months, I have no idea who their daily contacts are, and who just got back from the bars. A few people there were in their 70s. Denial is a hell of a drug, and it is catchy.
It turned out to be a stolen car. Woohoo.
Yikes, I hope his company goes with teleworking for a while!
It is hard to take these guys seriously. The base has been sold that wearing masks is a sign of fear.
When Boris Johnson went to the ICU, the media constantly stressed that he was not yet on a ventilator. Fortunately for him, he was in the ICU at a time when they had realized ventilation in an induced coma was a death sentence for some patients.
