Is there anything even the least bit unpredictable or surprising about Cornyn’s attitude? This is how R’s have been acting for years. In their world, there are no principles, only expedience. They’ll support anything and anyone until it becomes politically inconvenient to not support them. At that point, they will claim, in one way or another, that they never had anything to do with the person or belief that they supported for years.

Umm…guess he didn’t win by as much as he thought he would.
In 2014, Cornyn won his third term with 61.5 percent of the vote. And six years earlier, he won a second term with a 54.8 percent.
So in 2020 he ended up winning his Senate seat by a closer 10 points over Hegar. Texas is trending bluer than ever. One can only assume he sees the writing on the wall and for a red stater wingnut this has finally shaken him a little. Chances he’ll moderate his views however…zero.
