Two additional House Republicans have said they would support an article of impeachment against President Donald Trump for inciting an insurrection on the U.S. Capitol last week that left five people dead.
Wonder what the “magic number” of Republicans desperately distancing themselves from Trump it will be for it to become an all-out collapse in the House (in the way the media reports it)…?
Starting to get the feeling that a good number of the GOP reps not directly attached to Trump’s ass (Nunes, Gaetz, Jordan, Brooks, Gosar being examples of the “Trump’s ass” caucus) might just vote to impeach this time around…
This isn’t a tough call, guys. If you don’t think inciting insurrection merits impeachment can you tell me what would? And let’s not forget the extortion call to Raffensperger. This guy is a repeat offender superpredator.
Biden needs to push Congress to create a class of crimes that are designated as domestic terrorism. The DOJ needs unleashed on groups and individuals advocating for the commission of these crimes. A separate department within the DOJ needs created, dedicated and staffed specifically to monitor their activities, and coordinate with state and local law enforcement agencies in proactive measures to disrupt their plots.
That isn’t true. Let’s say 80% of Republicans are still with Trump. But virtually 100% of Dems and a solid majority of Indies are against him. Even in very red districts, I bet they make up 40%. So even there, the total is probably 50-50. And in pink districts, a majority would support getting Trump out for good. So, no, it’s on these Reps.
I’m sure he does. But he also made Trump President. 2016 was not that long about. Mitch and all of these mother fuckers were treating Trump like a leper until October, AFTER the Access Hollywood tape and the very short-lived Republican professions of “I’m done with this guy”. Their 2016 objection to Trump was ALWAYS about how he tied a lead weight around their down-ballot prospects. Once they gained some confidence that he could win (and I am still not clear on how they knew this wink wink), the lined up behind him. He would not have won without them. THEY could have stopped him in 2016, but I guess all the blood left their brain and went south at the prospect of tax cuts and right wing judges. Again, anyone who apologizes and acknowledges their role in the damage gets my forgiveness.
The real story involves the Republican donor class. Some of them seem to have been shaken by Trump. A lot of corporations are holding money back from Republican members of the sedition caucus. That is a really important but almost overlooked story. If Republicans are going to break to impeachment the donor class will lead the way.
If dropped into a room of 100 people I would fear the small percentage that are mentally disturbed and armed to the teeth far more than the remaining 90%. Absent someone to rein them in and suppress them I might possibly surrender to their demands ahead of my sane brethren.
After all, that minority has guns and they’re nuts.
Everyone can be all brave and cocksure about relegating them to the fringe. Until they whisper in your ear “We’re coming for you and your family if you don’t vote as you’re told. Oh, and by the way, we have people on the inside helping us.”
Regardless of what happens from here, anyone who is not on board by this time is hopelessly compromised. The erstwhile president encouraged a mob to attack the US Capitol building and everyone in it. What more do they need to see?
Consensual sex with someone not your wife while being a Democrat (though that particular case was morally reprehensible)? But that was over 20 years ago. By now it must be a fact of being a Democratic president.
