Rep. Peter Meijer (R-MI) said on Thursday that he has purchased body armor and has been altering his routine amid concerns that his life could be threatened, especially after he joined a fledging group of nine other House Republicans who voted to impeach the president for a second time.
Plus, he has to come back here to Michigan, and we have a nice selection of crazies wandering about who might decide they’re bored with stalking Whitmer. Here’s hoping that he turns out to be that very rare species called “Dignified Republican” which I thought had gone extinct.
Remember that time when “conservative” was a consternating yet reasoned alternative political perspective, not a terrorist ideology? That was neat.
There is a person on one of my podcasts (not sure which one, but maybe Pod Save America), who makes this excellent point. When your neighbor politely asks you to move your car, that is a request. When your neighbor comes to your door with an AR-15 and asks you to move your car, that is a threat.
How would you like to be making a speech in the House talking about the insanity of QAnon knowing that 2 members are not only QAnon believers but are carrying weapons? Now I guess some Republicans get to experience the fear that many progressives have been feeling every day for years.
Carrying a weapon into what is supposed to be a discussion is not an act of freedom - it is an act of aggression and intimidation.
Way to announce that they need to go for the head. It almost seems like it would be better if all those nut jobs you fed resentment and fear to for decades weren’t armed.
I do remember that time, but I still don’t remember any viable ideas or policies or anything constructive. So maybe an idea or two to help these patriots in their endless grievances would be a good start.
“It’s sad that we have to get to that point. But our expectation is that someone may try to kill us,” the Republican lawmaker said, later adding that …
… he intends to remain a proud member of the party that advocates assassination of its political opponents?
I think you are confusing “Conservative” with “Republican”.
As a conservative, a person who believes in limited Government, public schools, the rights of people including women to control their own bodies, the most important job of the courts are to protect minorities from the potential tyranny of the majority through the constitution, paying your bills and not creating deficits to subsidize billionaires, cares about foreign policy and opposes stupid wars and Vlad Putin dictating America acts only for the good of Russian, like all real conservatives I am a strong Democrat.
Considering the lack of awareness demonstrated by a host of the January 6 insurrectionists the threats could be easy to trace. Followed by:
(a) (1) Whoever—
(A) assaults, kidnaps, or murders, or attempts or conspires to kidnap or murder, or threatens to assault, kidnap or murder a member of the immediate family of a United States official, United States judge, a Federal law enforcement officer, or an official whose killing would be a crime under section 1114 of this title; or
(B) threatens to assault, kidnap, or murder, a United States official, a United States judge, a Federal law enforcement officer, or an official whose killing would be a crime under such section,
with intent to impede, intimidate, or interfere with such official, judge, or law enforcement officer while engaged in the performance of official duties, or with intent to retaliate against such official, judge, or law enforcement officer on account of the performance of official duties, shall be punished as provided in subsection (b). 18 US Code §115
