Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) publicly admitted for the first time Wednesday evening to having a sexual relationship with his former staffer, who later died by suicide.
“I made a mistake, and I had a lapse in judgment, and there was a lack of faith, and I take full responsibility for those actions,” Gonzales said during an interview with radio host Joe Pagliarulo.
“Since then, I’ve reconciled with my wife Angel,” he added. “I’ve asked God to forgive me, which he has.”
It wasn’t just suicide. It was self-immolation. She set herself on fire!
At least Tony’s conscience is clear, so all is good…
“I’ve asked God to forgive me, which he has.”
The fact that God doesn’t strike down people who say this shit with the most horrific, agonizing deaths imaginable is proof He/She/It doesn’t exist.
How pretentious one has to be to declare that G-d had forgiven him. Seriously, no.
Who would republicans blame for their sins if there were no fetuses or a “God” lurking in the minds? Certainly not their misogyny, or their gross immorality.
forgiven by God
In secular society (and politics), it’s called “dodging a bullet”.
Invoking God for political purposes??? Rubbish, right out of Donald Trump’s playbook! Shameful!!
First, how does he know that God has forgiven him?
Second, reminds me of another public figure who said ‘Forgive me for I have sinned.’
Third, since his wife has forgiven him, all should be okay and everyone should trust him. Do you really think he has changed his wondering eyes? There is one saying that comes to my mind about these stories. When one head swells the other goes stupid.
Indeed. The polling among the repentant sinner constituency must have looked portentous. What does Herrera need to do to remain competitive?
Forgiveness from God and forgiveness from humans are two separate things. Christians need to do both. If they sin, that’s an offense to God requiring forgiveness, but the rest of us are still allowed to judge them. Sorry, but you can’t go from lying about what happened to getting instant forgiveness just by saying words and it doesn’t matter how much lip service you pay to feeling bad or pretend you’re taking responsibility if it’s just words.
But this is why so many people like Christianity, because they never understood it and think it’s a loyalty program with lots of perks and not an obligation to serve. Rather than God’s laws being strict rules requiring obedience, it’s the other way around and you can sin all you want then say magic words and you’re instantly forgiven by everyone and it’s wrong to even mention their wrongdoing again because they used the Get Out Of Punishment Free spell their preacher taught them.
Has God also forgiven him for being a big fat liar and treating his constituents like they’re idiots?

Great, has he asked Regina Santos Avila’s husband for forgiveness? And her son?
Regina Santos-Avila (SAY HER NAME!) died from self-immolation. That is, she set herself on fire and burned to death. This is a horrific and unforgettable way to “commit suicide”, and she would have chosen this method so that the crimes (misbehavior? boys will be boys?) of Rep Gonzales would not go unnoticed.
He thinks his “gawd” has “forgiven” him, and sure – he’d be privy to that judgment, right? But the voters, particularly the female voters and any men who might have daughters, wives, girlfriends, sisters – even mothers – should take note and ask themselves if they would forgive.
This is very well said. Thanks!
- He hears voices in his head. True, it might be the sports bar/tittie club he camps out at to escape the little lady.
- sorry, but GQPer are you referring to? There are so many miscreants who fit that description.
- Gonzales started off pretty dumb. I mean, a conservative, family values, Texan? isn’t that the Oxford Encyclopedia’s definition of a moron?
The danger is, when his other head swells, he often passes out.
Fucking scumbag comes to mind. And tell me more about this direct line to this god dude.
The unspoken subtext of Gonzales’ message is “I have reconciled with my wife, God has forgiven me, therefore, you, the voters must forgive me.” He says “I made a mistake, and I had a lapse in judgment, and there was a lack of faith, and I take full responsibility for those actions.” If, as he says, the suicide had nothing to do with him, what caused her to take that drastic step? Manipulation, pure manipulation!!! I call BS!!
So according to Gonzales, God forgave him for the affair. Has Gonzales addressed whether God is OK with the repeated public lies denying the affair? And, is God OK that he ‘bore false witness’ against Herrera by accusing him of making up the story?
" The man whom God Himself has communicated with, is an honest Christian who is blameless and was ensnared by the wiles of this scarlet Jezebel.
got it
Today’s code of manly men no longer requires them to keep their word.
