Go Big Or Go Home: Focusing Only On Jan. 6 Misses The Broader Threat To The Republic | Talking Points Memo

I could be wrong, of course, but compelling Trump to appear would only embolden his sycophants, many of which have big mouths on Fox News. But maybe we shouldn’t fear this, and face it head-on.

Yes, it is. It’s extremely misleading and the type of asinine handwringing in which Democrats can only ever fail.

I don’t fear it at all. Let him refuse and then over and over again repeat, “Hillary Clinton wasn’t afraid to testify for 11 hours, what’s Trump so afraid of?” It doesn’t matter whether or not he ever testifies. That’s irrelevant. The point is to raise suspicions about why he won’t.

Put out clips and summaries of all that he has done and said, then offer him the opportunity to come and testify. Without Twitter and Facebook, he’ll explode trying to get “his side” out. Oh, sure, he’ll call in to Hannity and Tucker, but it’s not the same.

Patently ridiculous headline, patently ridiculous bullshit story about the committee, which has been having its first hearing for less than an hour.

Clickbait crap like this should be beneath Josh’s standards, and he should have the writer apologize to us for creating it.

Nancy Pelosi has done more than anyone else could have so far. I think it is a little early (the committee began just about an hour ago) to send her to hell. As to the impeachments, she could have brought in a dead body who, just before death, swore that trump had just stabbed her. The knife could have his fingerprints all over it and the Senate would have found him innocent.

Save your vitriol for those who deserve it.

Am I missing something here? This is a bill to establish a commission. You know, the one the GQP killed. NOT the select committee that is now meeting in the House. Which is what the piece is on. Come on, applying basic reading skills would be appreciated before you blast a headline which is NOT connected to a not existing because the GQP killed it commission.

The bill was about the Commission that was voted down. Come on, at least be accurate. You might wish the committee does what the commission was proposed to do, but wishes are not facts. What is the committee’s charge. Is it not to focus on 1/6?

Check the header in the text I quoted including the word “passed.” It’s the House bill H.R.3233 :

Passed House (05/19/2021)

Wait, isn’t Garland afraid of his own shadow?

Agreed on there merits, problem was the complaint started based on what the commission was to do before GQP killed it.

So what? It died in the senate. Which means it does not exist. It was for a commission NOT for a select committee. If you don’t understand the absolute difference… want to say the headline was click bait about the committee, go right ahead, but quit trying to justify something that is VERY different in scope and intent. The select committee is specifically about 1/6. Jeez.

David, I love you man, but NOTHING published in Politico is a “must read”, unless it’s to see yet another example of the worst kind of both-siderist nonsense that spins all political news as something “bad for Democrats” while elevating Republican bad-faith attacks. Please stop linking to that garbage.

Trump will bluster and lie if he is questioned. That’s given. Personally I don’t think Trump has the brains to pull off this insurrection, it’s his minions that made it so.

Besides fighting against the committee is just drama Trump needs to fill his base. Treat him as a bit player and put him in the corner, then watch what happens when he feels ignored.

Too bad we don’t control the Senate. Oh wait.
