Well…consider the context here. His lawyer is basically telling him to stop “poking the bear” because he may very well need the “bear” to give him a pardon, once the chips start coming in.
If your legal defense is “Trying to get you a pardon”…you may not have the best lawyer.

Tell them there are ten thousand comedians out of work. That’s effective even with hard cases. But seriously folks, I love this like ice cream. The president’s “lawyer” getting chewed out by a real lawyer who was paying attention at lawyer school the day they explained that you shouldn’t say stupid self-destructive stuff. The president’s “lawyer” getting told to get his phone out right this minute and call and apologize and explain you were making a dumb non-joke and by the way you’re no comedian pal hate to tell you. Like ice cream, it is. And the flavor of the ice cream is maybe someday this international criminal lunacy will come back to bite them.
