German Hospital: Putin Critic Alexei Navalny Remains In Coma | Talking Points Memo

Opposition can be useful. Following him around, you can identify all of his contacts and start tracing them, so you’re ready to go when it’s crackdown time. Removing him altogether splits things, and you may have more people go into hiding that you don’t know about.

That is because of how it was administered, by people who didn’t really know what they were doing.

In the Skripal case, it was administered through the skin by painting it on a hand rail and hoping the victim got a big enough dose from it.
That is why it also infected more people not the intended target. Bush-League at best.

As far as Navalny goes, he ingested a dose and that seems to have been too diluted. Again, not the work of the FSB/SVR. Probably the work of local Mob flunkies in their service.

As I said, the GRU are hardly a bunch of supergeniueses who accomplish their missions without fail.

Yes but you know privately he’s rooting Putin on. Additionally last year his campaign created a cartoon of Trump murdering journalists like some sort of joke snuff film.

Doesn’t explain why they never hang around to finish the job, if death is the definite aim.

Could have slipped something into his IV drip.

You’ve heard of a crime called “attempted murder”? That’s what this was. Attempted murdered tend not to stick around to make sure the job is finished because they don’t want to get caught. It’s not complicated.

They were following him anyways with other agents. And the collapse was on the place, emergency landing in a different city, so the original barista was already well clear.

If they really wanted him dead, just mixing something extra into the IV drip would have cleared the problem entirely.

You’re right, they must have wanted him to live. That’s why they dosed him with nerve gas. It all makes sense now.

The ones they REALLY want dead take a long step off of the 4th floor of the Hospital they are staying in.
Which is why he got shipped out to Germany ASAP by his supporters.
Navalny had too many people around him to take that second crack at him, and then got shipped off to a German Hospital with 24x7 guards around him.
Putin has made his point; “Fuck with me in Russia and DIE. No one can protect you here.”
Doubt that Navalny ever really recovers. At the very least, he will not be allowed back into Russia.

You’re not getting my point. Sure, they want them dead. But they don’t put in the effort, in some very specific cases, to make 100% sure that they are dead.

Putin has a long track record of taking people out, if he wanted it 100%, they would be. These ones, for some reason, he doesn’t seem to care whether they make it or don’t make it. Hasn’t gone back to finish the job with the Skripals, after all. And that’s been quite a while now.

But he’s killed plenty of other people in the interim.

Which is why you would have just dropped something in the supply chain to him. His minders wouldn’t have been able to evaluate every IV bag coming in and test it to make sure nothing was wrong.

Not sure how privately, but hell yes.
