“Of Santos’ known lies and misdeeds, his contempt for campaign finance laws poses the greatest, although perhaps not the most obvious, threat…”
Right, because violating campaign finance laws land you in egregious legal hot water. The FEC is so toothless their inbox is stuffed with denture flyers.
Jeepers, it seems Al Franken was really on to something in 2003 when he wrote “Lies And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them!” That would have made him prescient, but one wonders if he knew of the coming proliferation of lies (and liars).
Politicians have been habitually lying since at least 2000 B.C.
I wonder how many hookups he had on the campaign’s dime, since that seems to be the republican thing to do with other folks’ money.
Rupert is the King of Campaign finance violations with his in-kind donations to Trump
Why hasn’t Santos been sued?
His Democratic opponent surely has a civil case to make, doesn’t he? At a minimum based on this campaign funds issue. Sue Santos, start discovery, and it a very safe bet he’ll resign.
Others who could file suit include voters in his district.
It’s mind boggling why this simple step hasn’t been taken. Am I missing something?
All this may be true but AOC wore a dress that didn’t belong to her.
Probably because anybody who wanted to sue has consulted with a competent attorney and found out that outrage isn’t a cause of action.
“Plaintiff’s Original Complaint to Make Election Winner Pay Me Money and Resign for Being a Lying Liar Who Lied” isn’t a thing.
“Plaintiff’s Original Complaint for Voter Regret” is not a thing.
A viable understanding of how the civil justice system operates.
I’ve got that book on my shelf, I keep waiting for an updated sequel.
“Multiple investigations are underway by the Nassau County district attorney, the New York attorney general, federal prosecutors for the Eastern District of New York.” Will they bite? It’s a question, but those entities have very sharp teeth.
A couple of sequels actually … plenty of material for both —
“Sedition and the Seditious Seditionists Who Conduct Sedition”
“Fascism and the Fascist Fascists Who Perpetrate Fascist Acts!”
Hillary could certainly expand on her theory, laughed at by righties at the time, that there was, and actually still is, a “vast right-wing conspiracy.” trumpet’s election, for one example, showed us she was prescient and the six righties on SCOTUS are another.
From what I saw, it looked fabulous on her.
So much bluster and pearl clutching and wishing that the campaign finance laws actually matter/work.
The biggest thing this whole Santos story indicates is that he was too stupid to hook up with a dark money group where he should have had all the funds sent and then doled out to him as needed.
And if that is NOT the way it works, i apologize in advance
The people investigating Matt Gaetz have sharp teeth. Yet he walked.
IOKIYAR
Jeans and a sweatshirt look fabulous on her.
They also need to look into how much coordination there was with the Zeldin for governor campaign. When I would drive through the district I would see both campaign signs together plus they were working together in the same county committee.
Lets be clear - they are “warning” him?
CURIOUS PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW -
Yes, Who the Hell is “Andrew P. Olson” ?
when somebody sends emails regarding “Devolder-Santos for Congress”
… and it goes to “apolson1964@gmail.com” … who , precisely, gets the message?
Why is this a “warning” - hasn’t it been made clear enough that Santos is “knowingly and willfully making … LOTS & LOTS OF… materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation.”
