In American politics, all Americans are “hard-working” and all taxpayer dollars are “hard-earned.” In fact, the labor pool has been shrinking for two decades and about half of combined government revenues come from unearned capital income. As a rule, the richer you are, the less your income comes from labor income.

Collins simply doesn’t have the cash or perks necessary to buy the position. If Trump really wanted Collins, he would offer Kemp something lucrative, like a kickback on all imports into the Savannah port or shares in Russian aluminum mines. Otherwise the rich woman gets the job.

Do any of these people have alternate plans if it all caves. Gaetz is an example of all in. Trump has to stay in, along with his people for any of this to work for Gaetz. If not, Gaetz has welded himself so tightly to Trump that he will be buried if it all goes bad. That is the unsettling thought, that they have to take all to survive. Total domination. Gimping along and staying just inside the lines will not work in the long for the behavior they exhibit.

I’ve set up a Loathsome Congressional Club that includes Gaetz, Gym, Nunes, and Scalise so far. If Gowdy was still in Congress, he’d be included. Intelligence or lack thereof doesn’t count. The criterion for inclusion in the club is dislikableness, the Eew!-I-can’t-watch-them kind of dislikeableness. More members may be added.
