Presidential debates lost their utility years ago, so on one hand, whatever. But on the other, this feels like another major step on our backslide, when one party officially delegitimizes a neutral forum to present its candidates to the public.
I really hope the CPD and major media outlets (ha!) don’t give in here. If the GOP refuses to participate, do not accommodate them. Let the Democratic nominee answer questions submitted by voters instead.
First, I would like to apologize for my lack of faith yesterday:
I’ve previously made my comments about the debates and lack of GQP participation - a blessing to the rest of us that don’t need the drumbeat of conspiracy theories dressed up as campaign speeches.
I wonder if the J6 committee revealed anything of what they have on Miller. That would make for an interesting discussion. He can be as combative as he wants, but he was more than likely one of the architects of the event. It’ll be difficult to separate his actions from pursuit of the committee.
And, with respect to the abortion laws, I’m wondering when it will get through some voters’ thick skulls that elections have consequences. One of the continuing themes of the Left’s campaign in 2016 was the loss of abortion rights if TFG were elected. Those voters just couldn’t bring themselves to vote at all (let alone for HRC), so here we are.
And I guarantee, when Roe is reversed in a couple of months to non-existence, those same voters will wail and gnash teeth, wondering how we got here.
The reporter for NPR’s story about that yesterday engaged in a rare bit of editorializing; he said that no matter what happened, the result is still not at all a good look for the Russian Navy.
