I’m old enough to remember Brit Hume from his CBS (I think) days, and he never struck me as a RWNJ either; but I think @benthere is correct, Fox allows you to say out loud the things they were thinking, and then reinforces them, much as it does with their viewers. That’s how radicalization works.

The problem is that when you’ve been lying to people for over 20 years how can you expect anyone to believe you when you say, this time we’re telling the truth?
Your audience is going to be disproportionately affected (eventually since it will take more time to spread to the suburban and rural areas, but it will get there) because they are older and because many will believe the bullshit you, along with the orange menace, peddled for weeks about it being a hoax or just the flu. (White, christian) people will die because of you, perhaps that will finally keep you up at night.

Possibly for the first time in history, someone in management at Faux had to think long and hard about the possible damage to the brand from mouthing Team Red’s talking points.
Apparently, toeing the line is no longer beneficial to their business model.
Now, if they’d like to perform a real public service, they could suspend Hannity, Ingraham and all the other jokers for the duration.

It’s a simple business decision: If this goes wild and kills off a large segment of the elderly population in this country, how will that affect our bottom line? Oh, right, our viewers are pretty much 95% codgers. Fix this now.

It could be that they just realized that the demographic that covers a large portion of their eager viewership is the same demographic most likely to be harshly affected by the virus. If lots of those more vulnerable folks rely on Fox’s Fauxness and get sick and see loved ones die, it could have a, shall we say, detrimental effect on the number of their viewers. Profits above people sometimes even forces you to think about telling the truth.

The email went on to say that once the crisis has passed Fox News will happily return to fluffing the President and spreading Republican, especially White House, lies as the truth.

Funny thing is that I was on to him even in final CNN days on account of him saying some xenophobic racist shit that was only obvious if you knew the truth about what he was talking about. It had to do with where green card and visa applications were being processed. I will spare you the details, but for me it was a clear tell…
