Doesn’t a mirror already show the left and right side?
I think maybe he was referring to a “Minimart.” As in, “My nephew shot some guy with a turban at the Minimart the other day, while he was robbing him to pay for a couple of ounces of meth. Why can’t we do that here?”
Just read this article. It answers some questions I had about Mancin. He’s a tough, idiosyncratic nut to crack.
Harris County’s population is far more than West Virginia’s. Bexar County is higher than West Virginia. Dallas County is just a tad under West Virginia. And I can’t imagine Travis County or El Paso County going along with Alan West on the whole secession thing. Boom, 10 new Democratic Senators.
We should try to understand how he became a general. Who recommended him? Who signed off that he met the criteria? Who pinned his stars at him at the promotion ceremony?
Let’s have some reporting.
One might conclude that lying over and over and over again was part of achieving their agenda… /s
Can happen all day long. Reinstate and court martial, then strip of rank and dishonorably discharge him at the very very least. Hopefully send him to prison.
He’s a liar who just wants to protect his re-election at all costs…costs the rest of us will pay, not him.
Once an officer, always an officer. All it takes is the Secretary of the Army calling him back into service. I’m sure there are articles in the UCMJ that could place many military retirees at risk for arrest, and have been used in recent times, just not at the level of Flynn’s case.
It’s surreal how this is not just happening here but all over the world, and in many cases things have gone way past where they’ve gone here so far. E.g. Turkey, India, Brazil, Myanmar, Belarus, Egypt, Syria, Poland, Hungary–even Israel. Of course many of these countries don’t have a long history of lawful democracy, if at all. But some do.
We’re living through an era of autocratic resurgence and I’m not quite sure why. The underlying tendency towards autocracy has always been there in a certain segment of the population, both followers and leaders. It’s part of some peoples’ wiring it seems. But prevailing conditions have pushed it to the surface in ways it hasn’t in the past.
Perhaps it’s a result of the economically and culturally destabilizing effects of decades of neoliberal and conservative policies (and it’s often hard to tell the difference), which have made the rich far richer, the poor far poorer and the middle class declining and struggling to hang on, and pushed many people towards cultural and social tribalism out of a sense of economic and cultural self-defense, and some even further towards autocracy as a panacea.
If so, all the more reason to pass Biden’s massive infrastructure and budget bills, to ease many of the underlying economic inequalities and inequities that I suspect have enabled the rise of autocracy. They won’t make the underlying tendency towards autocracy, tribalism and racism go away, but it might push them below the surface again, where over time they might wither and die. Or not. Perhaps as a society we’re doomed to forever repeat this cycle of prosperity, inequality, populism and autocracy.
Nonsense. A rally that turns into a riot of a few thousand bitter-enders is a long way away from a civil war among 328 million people. I’m pretty sure a lot of those millions went to a barbecue yesterday that they had to skip last year. There’s not gonna be any damn civil war and that guy ought to shut his mouth and not say this hysterical stuff.
So I guess I was right. Manchin is off in his little world where he alone can talk to Republicans. Talk them into sitting at the table to talk about this or that. That’s his super power, but by not realizing that the Republicans are more worried about McConnell than their voters, or having any ideals, well that’s where Manchin falls into some sort if idealist.
Thinking of Manchin I keep getting this picture in my head of a boy, a girl, and a football.
Just. Wow. Flynn is apparently unaware of 21st century recording technology. And/or he’s just batshit crazy.
Mostly that second thing.
If he loses in 2024 and Dems keep the WH, he can be named to some top cabinet position to placate him, Interior, Agriculture or Energy. That might shut him up and buy him out. But his shtick about not wanting to destroy the senate or democracy is bullshit because the filibuster is already doing precisely that. When an instrument intended to protect you starts harming you, you stop using it. The filibuster is like an air bag that either doesn’t deploy or deploys and snaps your neck. Time for a recall!
I read reporting a few years ago to the effect that he was a pretty good intelligence officer when he wasn’t going off on the conspiracy stuff.
Sounds like someone had a chat with his lawyer. A chat involving Article 94.
Well, I don’t believe that it would be a successful civil war, for them at least. But there’s more than enough batshit and heavily armed Trumpies out there to launch a pretty serious attempted putsch that would put the 1/6/21 attack to shame, and they’re going to have significant support among law enforcement and the military, so it could snowball.
Ultimately I’d expect it to be put down, as they likely just don’t have the heavy arms, skills, training, coordination and strategic planning to pull it off. But even a failed attempt would do massive damage to our national sense of stability, that would invite future attempts, one of which might eventually succeed.
It’s not any one attack that I fear, but a series of them, each of which weakens us further. Around a third and maybe more of Americans really do believe that their America is being destroyed or taken away from them, and that’s dangerous.
Yes. This shitbag managed to rise to Lt General rank and his military career was almost exclusively in the intelligence field. Go figure. Obama nominated him to be Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in April 2012; I am guessing on advice of Pentagon brass. His tenure at DIA began July 2012. In April 2014, he announced his early retirement from the military, his tenure at DIA was not renewed in July, and he was out of the Army by August 2014. There were rumors (confirmed??) of being compromised by Russia as well as his chaotic and poorly managed DIA term. Now he’s trying to be good at gaslighting. He ain’t good!
Now you’re just talking silliness.
