FL Teens Now Have Higher COVID Positivity Rate Than Other Age Groups In The State Amid DeSantis’ Mask War

The “south” again. Fuck em let em shovel snow up there. Utah, North and South Dakota…Ohio…etc ain’t in the South but they’re crawling with wing nuts and have hard core GOP’ers ( COVID do nothings ) running their shows.

Now, Donovan and her team are watching the growth in “burn the mask” protests, where false beliefs that masks cause bacterial pneumonia are leading people to set them on fire and post videos online.

Of course, this is happening in Florida:

This all started in the south, which has ALWAYS been batshit and racist. It just migrated north and west as its whites migrated there. That said, absolutely there’s always been craziness and racism up north, and still is. But the “south” is and always has been its social, cultural and political epicenter.

I suspect that any demographic, educated white suburban or otherwise, that includes school-age children will have a minority of believers that freedumb from masks is more important than protecting kids from COVID.

But not to worry, the cons will just trot out some other new scary hobby horses to ride. “Critical Race Theory”, say. Or the “DISASTER BIDEN CREATED” in Afghanistan. Any half hour on Fox News right now is loaded with them.

They’re working on solving that problem as well: legislate to pick your voters but have a backup plan to make sure that your reliable conservative allies can just engineer ways to throw out the results if that fails.

Not in 1974.

For those unlucky enough to have never encountered chicken fried steak, it is a hunk of tenderized beef that is battered and pan-fried, often served with cream gravy. A good one is sublime. I recommend the AllGood Cafe’s rendition in Dallas for the real deal. Also sometimes known as a country fried steak.

Well they have the option of letting their kids get sick in a no mask joint or suffering the tyranny…hardship and strain of putting on a surgical mask. And…you can’t play COVID 2021 by the first edition’s rules. The Delta update changed a few things for kids.

August in NYC is one of the most miserable experiences you can find in a supposedly advanced country because of the widespread absence of central air conditioning.

I’m not sure you have it right. People don’t leave the South for North Dakota or Wyoming…they move in the opposite direction.

Yes! That is how they think. Where I live in So Calif, we have a big trumpian crowd.
I was entering a food mkt the other day same time as one of the locals in uniform – baseball cap + T-shirt with some kind of rumpian msg. He stared at my mask, made eye contact, then shook his head in an exaggerated signal of disgust. BTW, about 2/3 in the store were wearing masks.

It’s not at all hard to find A/C here, cafes, stores, restaurants, malls, offices, even subway cars and buses–usually. It’s when you have to be outside that it’s miserable, like walking to the train or waiting on the platform.

Well yes, of course. The question is whether these objectively pro-COVID policies of getting kids sick and killed will drive educated suburbanites towards or away from the politicians who are pushing those policies. The likely answer to that question seems fairly obvious.

And why do you suppose that the GOP controls them? Because so many of their voters are white racist dumbfucks who are from the south, either themselves or their ancestors. White redneck culture is responsible for most of this country’s manmade woes and it absolutely comes from the south originally. Civil War, 2nd amendment, lynchings, etc.–it all started there.

A Texas man speaks. The thing in NYC that gets ya is the humidity…which we have in spades here in Florida. I love it. Hence I like NYC, Montreal, Rome and even Orlando in the sweltering periods. No ones there and you can walk in any joint you like. Sloppy Joe’s Bar in August!!!

See 2020 election. 2024 will likely be more of that. The Trump wing of the GOP is driving the rest away. Remember the term Reagan Democrats? Now it’s all about Biden Republicans. Might not literally be Biden in 2024, but you know what I mean.

I think iacta alia est, and GOP delenda est.

Yes, all these horrible voting and election laws can’t be ignored, but I think that their effect will be less than they hope, and much will be overturned by the courts, even Trump’s SCOTUS. They’re not about to formally recognize legalized autocracy.

If you’re paying money to be in an indoor public place in NYC, you’re probably getting A/C to go with it. Not so at home, which is where most transmissions seem to occur. If friends and family are getting together in NYC, they’re probably doing it outdoors in August. When people stupidly do that shit in the South in August, it’s going to be indoors.

Nothing is going to happen until they are hit in the wallet more deeply for not following the rules than following them. When the costs of covid treatment shift over to the insurance companies, the unvaccinated will get horrendous bills and/or gawdawfully high premiums. When companies say, no vaccine, huh? well nice knowing you and good luck on your next job – or when they start doing the surcharge thing like many already do with smokers (the legal battles are fought – and productivity drops when your colleagues have to be quarantined because of your idiocy, so they won’t get socked with a mere fifty bucks a month).

Sure, there will always be a few who will ignore it regardless of the financial devastation, but an awful lot will be motivated to change their position on (or at least ungraciously accept the necessity of) vaccines.

I don’t think that’s very far down the road now.

Don’t over think it. The reason behind anti mask is anti mask. Nothing more.
