I agree but see it essentially as a cultural narcissism awash in everything we do, including in this aspect. Everyone is an “individual” who needs no one and no support, only thing that matters is “freedom” and “money” and “what I want.”
That is why Trump was the perfect American President, he was an embodiment of so many Americans.
So glad I live on the opposite side of the metro area from Elbert county.

Elbert is down in the RWNJ nether regions of the state, and Polis doesn’t seem like he’s got the gumption to shut us down again. He didn’t when our positivity rate was in the mid teens last month. This should go well.
In any State where this is happening, when the hospitals become overloaded (if they haven’t already!), I think the bars and restaurants should be tuned into makeshift hospitals.
It’s only fitting that the last places that demanded to be kept open deal with the results of their actions.
A serious question - given our lack of virus strain tracking in the US, how certain can we be that the UK virus originated in the UK and not in Colorado or another US hotspot & then travel to the UK?
Well, in my area, bars largely never closed…most argued that they were “serving food” and had out door areas for patrons, so it didn’t apply to them (plus local LEO was not going to raise a finger). After DeSantis removed any restrictions in May, they all went full steam ahead.
In Minnesota, they can be open if they follow guidelines. Outdoor seating spaced at least 6 feet apart. Rooftops, sidewalks and patios are fine along with heaters. (it is winter in Minnesota) You can’t make it impossible for them to make a living for month after month. Personally, I don’t see how they are staying in business with the reduced customer base and expense of buying special heaters plus the cost to run them.
And that’s mostly because Operation Warp Speed has been a complete disaster in terms of distribution. No one seems to be in charge of saying where the vaccine is supposed to go – and when it does arrive, in lots of cases no one has any actual plans on how to vaccinate the people who are supposedly the top priority.
And that, of course, is because the idiots Trump put in charge failed to co-ordinate with state governments – they didn’t even tell governors what the hell to expect. Suddenly, when the Pfizer vaccine was ready, states were told it was up to them – and only THEN did the CDC bother telling anyone what the priorities for the vaccine should be.
I am past the point of caring for/about Covid deniers. Choices have been made, those who choose to stay healthy will follow guild lines accordingly and those who feel they know more than worldwide health officials will get sick and some die.
I don’t care except that our hospitals are nearing capacity and that is scary. That’s the effect these people have - they don’t believe it and don’t do anything to protect themselves and I would not care at all except for that. They are taking up all the ICU beds.
