Another strain of flu… nothing to see here. Anyways can we call it Covid 20? Covid 19 is getting like two years ago…

The only humor about the Variant is now labelled the UK Covid - which is driving the Far-Right nuts as their talking point has been to target China.

The poorer countries will be using AstraZeneca’s vaccine because of easier shipping and storage requirements as well as low cost. UK just approved their vaccine and India may follow today.

Pretty sure they have close to a billion doses ready.

At this point the talk about waves is obsolete. The nation is fully awash with the virus, the rise and fall simply choppy seas in an ever rising flood.

The question is can we manage to vaccinate in time to save hundreds of thousands spared thus far. And, tragically, the answer is not under the current administration.

And yet, here in Trump country Oregon, a local coffee place has decided that the lockdown/takeout only rules don’t work for them and announced they will be opening up for indoor dining this week(we are supposed to be locked down until March, at which time the governor will re-evaluate the situation). The other restaurants in town are being responsible thus far, but how long before another establishment decides the rules aren’t for them? And our Chamber of Commerce is contemplating a letter to the governor demanding that our part of the county be opened up for business, even though we have consistently been among the worst-hit in our state. You wonder where we will be when, not if, the more virulent strain of this virus reaches us…the Trump virus denial insanity is pervasive and shows no signs of ebbing. It’s hard to see any light in this darkness.

The U.S. has never left the “first” wave. As for our current dissemination of vaccines, and vaccinations, I don’t think we’re doing as well as we could. We did better with smallpox, polio, and measles. But we stopped believing in science pretty much after Reagan was elected.

I wish I were younger, and a whole lot smarter, and disciplined. I’m really impressed by this guy, and the whole emerging field of genomic epidemiology:

Our positivity rate in my county is around 45% right now. The county next to us is around 75%, as of yesterday. Every county in the panhandle is north of 40%.

And every single bar and restaurant is wide open.

I’m sorry to hear this, but not surprised. I think people have lost the ability to see the big picture and cope with adversity. I always thought the WW2 generation did as well as they did because they were used to hard times and self-sacrifice–the war just became another difficult ordeal to overcome. in 2021, adversity for many people is when you can’t get your amazon order in two days…

Horrible, no other word for this.

Which county? So I can avoid it on my trips north.

I see light in those who follow what is known as “fearless science.” Right now, that would be epitomized by people like Anthony Fauci. We just have to have people that listen, and practice awareness better.

His deliveries were a super-spreader event like no other: all those maskless families opening presents Christmas morning had no cause to suspect a viral load was hanging in the air.

Two weeks ago, several hundred people gathered at a community church in the county seat of Kiowa to consider whether to pursue legal actions against [Gov.] Polis and other state officials for imposing coronavirus-related restrictions, according to the Elbert County News. County commissioners and the county sheriff have declined to enforce restrictions emanating from Denver.

Elbert County: 74% Trump; 76% Cory Gardner; 76% Ken Buck; etc, ad nauseam.
