“The complaint charged that Singh’s pricing of N95 masks – from between $3.99 to $4.99 – constituted price-gouging…”

And that’s not even the worst of it.

He was charging a whopping $19.99 for a 12-oz can of Lemon-Flavored Clorox!

I believe we have met our new Secretary of Commerce.

So he paid $2.70 a mask and charged (185%) $4.99.
What’s the standard markup in retail sales?
I’m guessing he got screwed even more by the manufacturer or wholesaler?

I wanted a mask. He said he was out of stock but had a nice cummerbund to show me.

I Have to wonder if criminal charges would have been so swift if he had a more “American” sounding name like, say, Jerry Falwell or Jared Kushner.

The first tip off that you were a crook was, "Why would a shoe salesman be selling masks and gowns? Dead give away, buddy.

That was my first thought.

Why not? He can sell a knock off copy of a pair of Yeezys for $1200 dollars.

But does he know to kick something upstairs? ahem

depending on the item. And maybe Singh was using the athletic shoes as a loss leader.

Well… selling moon pies and pickled pig’s feet from a jar on the counter isn’t gonna put anyone’s kid through college, now is it?

OK I think I’m doing the arithmetic wrong???
So 185% means he paid $1.74 and sold them for $4.99.
(His cost $1.74 + (185% x $1.74)) = $4.99.
Regardless - seems like this guy is small potatoes in a market where 100 millions of these masks are being sold.

50% mark up is the average, but I do remember hearing/reading that N95 makes were about under $2 for cost, and that was I think a price for them coming from overseas.
