Wow, DOJ leaping into action! They’ve issued subpoenas! How many months after the false elector schemes were first extensively reported on? I hope there’s no statute of limitations on submitting false statements to the federal government, 'cause if there is, Merrick Garland’s DOJ sure as hell isn’t going to get anything done before it runs out.
The DOJ has asked for information about
Asked whom?
taken the form of subpoenas issued by a D.C. federal grand jury seeking information about the attorneys and about Kenneth Chesebro
Subpoenas to whom? Mickey Mouse? Tinkerbell?
The Times reports that DOJ acknowledged this investigation last January. It may have been underway before that.
The Time also observes that “It is a federal crime to knowingly submit false statements to a federal agency or agent for an undue end,” and that “The scheme reached a crescendo in the days leading up to Jan. 6, when Mr. Trump and his allies mounted a relentless campaign to persuade Mr. Pence to accept the alternate electors and use them at a joint session of Congress to deny.”
It seems probably or even likely that much of the evidence necessary for an indictment is in the public record. Trump and a mob of his flunkies spent a couple of months publicly urging all sorts of people and institutions to submit statements to congress that they knew were false. And so maybe these subpoenas are just DOJ crossing their Ts and dotting their i’s.
It might be my imagination (or, more likely, wishful thinking), but I keep hearing that harmonica at the beginning of the theme music from Hang 'Em High…
The noose tightens…
For the love of God, just do something!! Do it now!!
People complaining about the DoJ investigation happening quietly in the background should shut up. These investigations should be done quietly, and only become public when they determine that they are going to prosecute someone. Let’s all remember the Clinton investigations, and how they damaged her candidacy…if we want that for our side, we want it for every investigation.
The DoJ is definitely looking into all of these things, and doing a very careful, diligent, quiet job of it. They keep putting forward indictments of people, despite the complaints that they aren’t moving fast enough…justice moves slowly if you’re doing an honest investigation. We will get more indictments, maybe not of everyone we want, but definitely of anyone that they think the evidence supports a probable conviction…there’s a lot of evidence that should convict many people.
So wait…Chesebro worked for The Cheese Bro? That’s pretty awesome.
Just so as you know, you couldn’t possibly be more incorrect.
DOJ investigating the people behind the fake electors scheme is the clearest indication yet that they’re looking to charge the electoral part of the attempted coup, of which we have abundant evidence Fat Donnie himself was directly involved. Everything charged to date on J6 has been on the insurrection part of the attempted coup. The electoral coup and the insurrection coup are two sides of the same coin.
Thanks for continuing to provide perspective instead of knee-jerks.
Thanks for your input…but this is not flattery. We have been under the gun like no time I can remember living through, and we need insights.
Imagine building your case before taking it to court! Whatever happened to show trials! Just throw them in jail. We don’t need no stinkin’ evidence
I’m not as bothered by the amount of time the DOJ has been taking on this. I think charging in July, August or even September will be worse for the Republicans in the midterms than if it had happened two or three months ago. It sure it will throw the party into disarray when it happens.
All well and good, but I will wait until indictments are handed down.
Not willing to wish upon another Fitzmas 2.0.
Right?
I almost did a double take on that one.
I am wondering if Mikie Sherill has a case against Loudermilk for filing a false ethics complaint on her. Now he admits he DID lead a ‘delegation’ on 1/5/22 (after he called her a liar).
Isn’t that filing a false legal charge?
Lock 'em all up. Conspiracy to Defraud the US Govt. is a felony. They should spend the next 20 years in the Federal Pen in Florence, CO thinking about their stupidity.
Generally agree with you here. Not a lawyer, but my understanding is that indictments would be in the public record. No?
We’ve seen indictments on the insurrection side and some confessions and convictions of the people who assaulted the Capitol. I don’t recall seeing any indictments of the lawyers and masterminds of the Big Lie, either those in the White House or hanging around it.
