The co-founder of the conservative legal organization the Federalist Society said Thursday that Trump’s bid to move Election Day was “fascistic” and worthy of impeachment.
Are all these conservative naysayers truly opposed, or are they moving the Overton window so that merely protesting an election and refusing to leave office seems, you know, less fascist than postponing an election?
I recall the fall of GW Bush. At some point the cult of personality disintegrated as his popularity plumented, and the GOP began to talk about 8 years of Republican government as something they were fighting against. I think we’re starting to see the beginning of the end for Trump. The talking points will soon become "We have to get this guy out of the White House so we can get a Republican in there.
Trump is trying to spin the tweet as a protest against mail-in ballots. And the Civil War was an attempt to highlight the administrative downside inherent in a Federal system.
“Until recently, I had taken as political hyperbole the Democrats’ assertion that President Trump is a fascist,” he said. “But this latest tweet is fascistic and is itself grounds for the president’s immediate impeachment again by the House of Representatives and his removal from office by the Senate.”
Democrat’s assertion is NOT a political hyperbole…
AND
Yes, Trump should be impeached AGAIN (unconstitutional election delay) and AGAIN (Russiagate + Bountygate) and AGAIN (Chinagate) Benghazi style…24/7 investigate and drip drip drip…rinse and repeat until he gets voted out of office!
Additionally, Biden was right that Trump will “somehow” try to delay the election.
“President Trump needs to be told by every Republican in Congress that he cannot postpone the federal election,” Calabresi said. “Doing so would be illegal, unconstitutional and without precedent in American history. Anyone who says otherwise should never be elected to Congress again.”
Maybe some will wake up, realize that the bus they’ve been napping in for the last 1/2 decade WILL go over the cliff in a few months (I hope I hope I hope), and now is not a bad time to open the door as the bus is speeding toward the edge, and try to escape while you still have a chance.
I see some quibbles about his statement already but I think the takeaway should be that he’s straight out saying the tweet itself is an impeachable offense.
Is distrust or disbelief or lack of confidence in the administration complicating the bailout issue? Do you trust the administration?
This [Bush] Administration deserves to be trusted because it has kept us safe from terrorist attack since 9/11, has fought and won two wars, has presided over eight years of economic growth, has appointed two stellar justices to the Supreme Court, and has even learned how to do Louisiana’s job of protecting that state from hurricanes. The day will come, and not before long, when Americans will wish that George Bush was still president.
He has done the political math and realized if he can get rid of Trump before the election conservatives have a better chance to hold onto power. McConnell probably sees it too.
