But one of Loeffler’s main opponents is Doug Collins (the special election in November for that Senate seat occurs without a primary, so there will be multiple contenders from all parties). Collins would clearly be IMO the choice of Trump, and in early April he claimed his internal polling showed a clear lead over Loeffler. So throwing her under the bus would actually be a boost to Collins.

Looks like the FBI has a burr under their saddle.

Effing " fishy? " Martha Stewart went to prison for “fishy”?

Come on!
Everyone, even the FBI, at this point knows that GOP crime syndicate members use burner phones for these things.

This is Barr making sure the phone records never become public as he works to protect Burr while holding this over his head to get his cooperation in the Senate to abuse his power to help Trump.

Burrs behavior functions as evidence that they knew before it became public and supports the conclusion that Trump slow walked the virus response…maybe that’s it.

But I maintain this is merely leverage right now. Burr will now be under threat and forced to abuse his Senate position even further to help Trump lest this Sword of Damocles fall.

Not saying she wasn’t just as guilty, just that investigators and prosecutors being human, they’re going to first address the easiest case to make. If she’s got a couple layers between her and the transaction and Burr doesn’t, guess who gets the love first. This of course assumes there are no particular factors at work here and we don’t of course assume that.

I wouldn’t put it as first or anything, they’re two separate investigations, not like the FBI isn’t big enough.

I’d agree hers is going to be more complex, looks like Burr totally fucked up and made it easy for them, so it’s natural that it may be a while longer before we hear something on her.

He might walk if he were running for reelection but he isn’t. They don’t need him any more and he has pissed the don off.

Since email and phone records live on their providers’ servers, why would FBI need someone’s phone, other than to disrupt their lives?

A crime that specifically requires information about the company being traded. “The country is about to be screwed” is not such information.

Oh, dear lord. The “lawyer” who insists that the law isn’t the law shows up again.

Let’s break it down for you simply:

If you receive information that says that lockdowns are coming, which affects travel, and you go sell your hotel stock, because hotels rely on travellers, that’s the textbook definition of insider trading.

Sheesh.
