I think you could find some support in the greater Toronto area for building their own wall to keep us out. Not everyone, but many there tend to regard us en masse as a bunch of subhumans. They also think jaywalking is a horrible violation of all that’s decent. They’re wrapped pretty tight and they’re snobby, some of them, is the painful truth I’m just going to force myself to say. I mentioned this in Winnipeg once and was told, “They do it to us, too.” Torontonian of my acquaintance told me her husband was offered a job in Vancouver and she nixed the idea. “I could never be a western girl,” she said, like they would have to live in a sod house in the prairie. Hubs was an astrophysicist, the job was at some university, Vancouver is as sophisticated as any city in North America (and far and away the most beautiful) and sod houses there are few but nope, wouldn’t do it. I really like Canada and would move there with no hesitation but if I ended up in Toronto I think I’d have to grease up my eyeballs to allow them to roll freely. I’m more a Montreal guy, a vrai dire.
They are pretty ‘base’, aren’t they?
I’ve been to Montreal and enjoyed it. Haven’t been to Toronto yet but in recent years it’s been a redoubt of Rob Ford like populism, Chris Farley crossed with Trump particularly with his brother as premier.
“The three plaintiffs in the suit, the Virginia Citizen’s Defense League, who did threaten legal action before Northam made his announcement Wednesday, Gun Owners of America and Kenneth Van Wyk, are asking for a preliminary injunction.” “They are claiming the governor’s executive order violates citizens’ First Amendment rights.”
Not sure how the First Amendment is the argument to be made.
I’m gonna have to miss VA’s Incel Choadfest 2020.
I’ve got a hot date.
Has Donnie pardoned them yet?
Given this, and the start of the impeachment trial, it’s going to be a long weekend of rage-Tweetin’…
After all, there are “very fine people on both sides.”
But how can we know if these were good Nazis or bad Nazis?
Surely we should wait until they exercise their rights before taking action?
What, a Gun rally in Virginia, and there were NAZIs coming?
Yes, but they’re fundamentally cowards. They won’t do anything unless they think the LEOs are on their side.
Question is, are they?
The bad Nazis wear swastikas made in China.
It’s also a great town to visit. The variety of ethnic neighborhoods contributes to a very rich restaurant scene, the people go out of their way to be helpful to visitors with directions and so forth, it’s mostly pretty modern and stylish, there’s a lot to like. And many of the educated upscale type residents view that populist thing with as much dismay as we view Trump. Just don’t be surprised when they let their hair down about what they view as the profound differences between Canada and the States.
Y’all Qaeda
Isn’t the literal translation of “Al Qaeda” in English, “the base?”
It really is just Tiranah. We’re debating moving there anyways, because my wife’s Canadian (so I’ve got an easier pathway in than Harry), and we’ve both had about enough of the BS down here. If November goes poorly, we’ll start shopping for real estate on NS (her family lives in Edmonton / Sask)… once she finishes law school. That’ll give the kiddo the chance to finish high school and move on to her next thing.
If there are forms to fill out pick me up a set too. Politics aren’t perfect up there but it’s still more or less rational. I don’t want to live in a country that had an elaborate knowledge of what he was and picked him twice anyway.
I’m pretty well convinced at this point that it’s going to happen. Between a combination of apathy (that’d be the 70 million who couldn’t be bothered 4 years ago), disinformation, outright cheating, and the clusterfuck that is the democratic party… I see it as the most likely outcome, and if that happens, I think it’s game over for democracy.
I think it’s possible, which is horrifying enough, but by most measures it’s not the most likely outcome.
The lawsuit claimed Northam’s executive order violated citizens’ First Amendment rights.
I’m trying to figure out how being armed is an exercise in ones first amendment rights. Lots of people are able to do so without packing heat.
