I don’t know about Michigan specifically, but there was a confederate memorial in Madison WI for the soldier-prisoners who died at Camp Randall. This was put up in 1906 as part of a wave of monuments by the “United Daughters of the Confederacy” attempt to whitewash the past. It was taken down in 2019:
I imagine the Michigan one was along the same lines.
