Fauci Won’t Say He’s ‘Optimistic’ | Talking Points Memo

We hope this just goes away, burns itself out, the way SARS did.

Wouldn’t that be so great?

So, like with the economy, Donald doesn’t have to do anything but still take credit for it.

Uh oh…sounds like he’s been chatting with the Don…hopefully there are no vague allusions to people going to work to recover…

I’ll pay attention when Trumpence announce that things are not working out under them and Tony Fauci is now in complete charge with plenipotentiary powers. I’m deeply skeptical of anyone that plays nice with this regime.

From Wikipedia (should update to include Fauci):

Famous tightrope artists

  • Charles Blondin , a.k.a. Jean-François Gravelet , crossed the Niagara Falls many times.
  • Robert Cadman, early 18th-century British highwire walker and ropeslider.
  • Con Colleano, Australian, “the Wizard of the Wire”
  • David Dimitri, Swiss highwire walker.

Exactly.

Just the fact they allowed Fauci out today shows they’re deeply worried this has spiraled out of their control. Not that it was ever in their control.

In a perverse way, putting Fauci out there today is the canary in a coal mine. A harbinger of doom.

Now he can also shoulder the blame when the inevitable shit hits the inevitable fan.

Trump: "That Fauci guy is a little shrimp. A squirt. A pipsqueak if you ask me. I hardly know him. I don’t think we’ve ever met in fact. (Aside to aide: “Have we met?) I don’t know who he thinks he is, but he certainly isn’t speaking for me. I’m the best on this subject. Better than anyone else, so everybody tells me. So, no, I don’t have any comment about whatever he said to the lame liberal media earlier today.” FORE!

If it can happen there, it can happen here. And I think it will.

I hope Trump resigns, but that’s not a plan.

We’ll all keep our fingers crossed right along with you that this will just burn itself out. Well, now I see what the plan is.

Why should we think that Fauci’s “Trump Whispering” would be any better?

ETA. Again, why should we think that Fauci has the magic touch? It’s just too early to tell. Messonnier:

This tweet thread unmasks the Trump strategy.

There are a lot of people who will be symptomatic for the Corona Virus but for whom the CDC won’t authorize Covid-19 tests.

The reason for that is a basic assumption underlying Trump’s Corona Virus strategy. Lots of young people will get sick; it will feel like the flu, but ‘they’ll live’. If such folks don’t get reported as a Corona stat, it keeps the numbers down. The folks they have to worry about are older people. Testing will be rationed for older folks only, which will artificially keep the corona virus numbers down. The problem is that you’ll have a lot of people running around transmitting the virus at gas stations, grocery stores, shopping malls, restaurants, office buildings, hospitals, schools, uber/lyft rides, workplace settings, leading to a major community spread and worse problems for the US.

I’ve moved on from hopes of a resignation to divine intervention in the form of CPAC-19.

Ruh Roh. Someone didn’t get the memo.

I can hold onto two hopes at the same time.

A spot of bright in the dark. Did y’all see Bibi’s plan for dealing with the outbreak?

Basically, employ child labor to disinfect buildings and buses and so on, since children “aren’t affected”.

When dealing with executive leadership, like God, always best to present a solid decision paper for a yes/no answer. They don’t like having to choose between multiple things on their own, they want the experts to make the choice and just get their approval.

Why not the whole shooting match?
