Maybe the next president who I’m sure will be sane will award Dr. Fauci the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of his accomplishments. That same sane prez will not award it to a fat cat donor named Adelson, however.

Fauci is presenting a false dichotomy. No one is giving up because of the projections. People are just giving up on counting on this incompetent, dishonest, self-dealing, corrupt, idiotic administration to do anything helpful to counter or mitigate those projections.

Fauci is right but the worry is the horses are already out of the barn due to the tardiness and ineptitude of the federal response and the stupidity of select governors mostly in the deep south.

5 Key Facts Not Explained In White House COVID-19 Projections published by NPR on April 1. These five key facts are:

  • The IHME model ignores the president’s guidelines because they’re voluntary;
  • The modelers pay attention to each state’s rules, because they’re what matters;
  • They assume all states will have social-distancing rules by a week from today;
  • They assume all rules will stay in place until at least June 1 (again, ignoring Trump);
  • They cover only the first wave of infections, and they assume there will be more later (which they are not modeling).

tl/dr; the IHME assumptions that the WH appears to be using are optimistic, yes (and hope they are right), but even granted those assumptions IHME is not claiming covid-19 related deaths will be limited to the model.

The bible-thumpers, TrumPublicans and other assorted science-denying dolts in the old confederacy have entered the burning barn w/ the gate to hell waiting.

Interesting tangent.

In looking at Amazon for Purell hand sanitizer (which hasn’t been available for a long time), it’s now Available only for hospitals and government agencies directly responding to COVID-19

While It would be nice to have access to some, I view this as a positive step by Amazon to prevent hoarding / gouging and to help protect our first responders.
