After being shunned by his colleagues for aligning with the far-right militia movement, Washington state representative Matt Shea will not appear on the ballot for re-election in 2020 after 11 years as a legislator.
No retirement announcement just a cowardly turning tail that seems entirely in character. However, an inciter of terrorism will no longer be a member of the WA leg. I’ll take my victories where I can get them.
Congratulations, Spokane Valley. Try to be a little more thoughtful when choosing Shea’s replacement OK?
I would have loved to have heard their shocked, shocked tones discussing what’s in the report. They shunned him because he’s obviously crazy and nobody wanted to be around him.
Shea said he was the victim of a “sham investigation” when the report was published in December, comparing himself to President Donald Trump.
One of the many outcomes of the next election that I’m hoping for is that Republicans realize Trumpism only worked for Trump because he had lots and lots of help from foreign bad actors and domestic ones too. When they try Trumpism at home it almost always backfires.
Friday’s filing deadline to appear on November’s ballot came and went without any word from Shea on his House seat, local Washington outlets reported. Shea did file, however, to run for the neighborhood-level role of Republican precinct captain.
Though Republican House leaders called for Shea to resign, no Republicans signed onto a Democratic letter calling for Shea’s expulsion from the legislature.
Once again the Repukes show their backbones. By turning and running.
I live in western Washington where sanity is way more prevalent. Matt Shea is a certified nut job. Maybe the pandemic has opened the eyes and minds of Spokane voters. I wouldn’t bet the ranch on it.
Months after being shunned by his colleagues over a damaging report on his involvement with the far-right militia movement, Washington state representative Matt Shea will not appear on the ballot for re-election in 2020 after 11 years as a legislator.
Lest anyone feel sorry for the white nationalists, they still have Trump, McConnell, Scalise, and so many others.
