Given how infused the Right is with religious nuttery (âOnly God decides when you will die,â etc., ad nauseam), this has a large religious component. And in South Korea (a country with a high-standard public health system) the virus is epidemic because itâs being spread by some obscure Christian cult. First, theyâre into publicly proselytizing. Second, they refuse to initially identify themselves as cult members because the average South Korean doesnât want to be hounded by some cultist. So theyâre going out and spreading it incognito.
Italy: as I recall, jackasses like Salvini and his movement were against vaccinations. Anti-vaxxing is part of a sick mindset that endeavors to undermine public health measures, so there could be a connection with how the virus got a foothold in Italy.

Yes, and as we are learning, we are not isolated from things like pandemics. Coordinating with other countries and the WHO is imperative. Trump has stripped our ability to provide our resources anywhere and seems more concerned about the stock market than the health of U.S. citizens.
