According to the Atlantic News Journal, Johnson is trying (along with about 500 other folks) to get Gov. Kemp to appoint him to fill the rest of Isakson’s term. If this doesn’t work he will run as an R in 2020. The AJC reports that “His proposal would provide students a $50,000 grant for their college education and other work training and licensing costs. People who have already paid their student loan debts would receive tax credits up to $50,000. Since the Democratic nominee is likely to be someone with a proposal for loan cancellation, it should be interesting to see how Individual-1 (if he’s ever able to run in 2020) will handle the competition.

The headline’s somewhat unclear. My first read was exactly the story - the guy is calling for cancelling debt. My second read was, “waitaminnit, that can’t be. He’s calling for an end to student loan programs, because that’s the way they roll.” Then looking at the story, he is calling for debt cancellation.
Now, I have to wonder how many Georgia red state pull yourself up by your bootstraps keep the welfare state out of my pockets types will show up to get their 50K back.
