Ex-Obama Official Launches Bid For Ron Johnson’s Senate Seat | Talking Points Memo

Milwaukee Bucks executive and former Obama administration official Alex Lasry on Wednesday announced his bid to challenge Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) during next year’s midterm elections.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1360727

The article is incomplete.

It refers to Lasry as a Milwaukee Bucks executive but fails to mention that his father is the hedge-fund billionaire who owns the team and is a major Democratic donor.

It also describes Lasry as “the second Democratic candidate” but fails to mention the first: Tom Nelson, the Executive of Outagamie County (Appleton).

That said, at the moment I support both candidates.

The statement “Johnson, however, has yet to announce whether he will seek a second term” is incorrect. The idiotic senator is serving his second term. I’ll never forget that he defeated Russ Feingold twice.

On the whole, I support the ham sandwich.

Thank you for pointing that out.

Lasry’s connection to the Bucks will definitely help to boost his campaign, but it’s very possible Johnson is waiting on the right time to announce he’s running for governor. It’s also rumored that Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes is interested in running for senate as well.

Johnson thinking of running for governor? Well, he’s lost his title of dumbest senator to Tuberville, he might as well try for dumbest governor, even dumber than Scott Walker.

White? Check.
Male? Check.
Trump-humper? Check.

He’s smart enough for the primary election.

I too, support the ham sandwich. Not exactly an inspiring candidate. His dad, Marc Lasry, is a billionaire, hedge-fund manager, and co-owner of the Bucks (yes…he definitely has “the bucks”. Ba-dum-dum…CHING!). Former Dem Senator, Herb Kohl (succeeded by Dem Tammy Baldwin), is the former billionaire-ish owner of the Bucks. I have nothing against Alex Lasry–his dad will almost certainly fund his campaign, so $$ shouldn’t be an issue–but I’d prefer a more relatable candidate like Tammy Baldwin. Baldwin didn’t have it easy growing up, and has creditability when talking about economic hardships that people face, healthcare, and kitchen table issues.

“We’ve lived through three systemic shots to the system over the last 20 years: 9/11, the Great Recession and now this pandemic.”

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I sense an elephant around here somewhere.

…defeated Russ Feingold twice.’ That, sadly, says a lot about the mind set of our state’s voters! And about their ability to think smartly! Feingold, whether you agreed with his views or not, was not a party first, and state second kind of guy. This pile of garbage, RoJo, is a stupid Trumper through and through!

The fact that Ron Johnson already has two Democratic challengers and we’re barely past the 2020 elections should be of concern to him, if he has any brains. Democrats see blood in the water and comments like insurrection…what insurrection?, are not likely to help his cause.

If either Democrat defeats Johnson, that will raise the average IQ of the Senate by a non-negligible number.

I’ll take 'Things that happen under Republican Presidents that the Democrats have to clean up" for $1,000 Alec.

Also, Buck, here’s to hoping you get royalties from the team for the use of your screen name.

Meh, let’s see who else declares. Unfortunately, we don’t have a deep Democratic bench in the Badger state
