Georgia House Speaker David Ralston ® said the quiet part out loud Wednesday, bashing the secretary of state’s move to mail out absentee ballot applications to the state’s registered voters because the higher voter participation “will be extremely devastating to Republicans and conservatives in Georgia.”

“Every registered voter is going to get one of these,” he added in an interview with FetchYourNews, a local news site. “This will certainly drive up turnout.”

My hobby horse. IMHO, this headline matches the story far better than the DT one a couple of days ago. Ralston explicitly states concern about legitimate Dem turnout and voting, so he can’t turn around and say, “I mean dems will let illegals vote.” Well, he might, but the quote is pretty clear.

You should stay up and watch a sharp woman commentator named Rachel Maddow on MSNBC sometime. She’s a whiz at calling out this kind of stuff and connecting the dots to larger concerns.

So much for representative democracy.

The reason these guys are so emboldened about engaging in overt voter suppression tactics is because they know John Roberts -destroyer of the Voter Rights Act and supporter of Citizens United -has their backs.

I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say many of the problems we face today can be placed on John Roberts’ doorstep. From voter suppression to foreign influence in our elections, to the inordinate power of billionaires and corporations in our government to the destruction of unions and the environment. While there are many factors for the current fascistic tendencies of our government, Roberts has been a key enabler and driver of the process.

Def good news for the olds. Thanks in part to

Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Richard Neal, D-Mass., issued a statement urging Treasury Secretary Mnuchin and Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul “to find a solution that will allow vulnerable groups to receive these funds automatically, without needing to file an additional return.” Other members of Congress echoed that plea.

… don’t get so confident - - - Democrats can get full of themselves - can be tone deaf - can get arrogant … but … that probably will not be a problem for a while
… it is just that right now - the Republicans have cornered the market on Assholery - a total monopoly - to the point that if a moderate Republican tried to speak rationally and reasonably - they would get death threats from the racist Fascist rightwing that now has mob-rule control of the party.
Reasonable Republicans have long since packed their bags and permanently gone to their summer homes - some will pop up from time to time to make a comment - but when they do - they get a savage onslaught of hate mail.

It’s almost as if CJ Roberts truly believes that voting is a privilege and not a right.

They can say it out loud because they’ve been fighting a war against us all along. They know they’re defrauding the American public, and they think that is absolutely justifiable. Their followers do too.

Or if Republicans were more secure about their beliefs and the positions they take on issues they wouldn’t have to fear what kind of turnout there is.
