LONDON (AP) — Scientists at Oxford University say their experimental coronavirus vaccine has been shown in an early trial to prompt a protective immune response in hundreds of people who got the shot.
Preliminary results from a phase 1/2 trial involving 1077 healthy adults found that vaccine induced strong antibody & T cell immune responses up to day 56 of the ongoing trial. These responses may be even greater after a 2nd dose according to a sub-group study of 10 participants
Authors say further clinical studies, including in older adults, should be done with this vaccine. Current results focus on immune response measured in the laboratory. Further testing is needed to confirm if vaccine effectively protects against infection
“We are seeing good immune response in almost everybody,” said Dr. Adrian Hill, director of the Jenner Institute at Oxford University. “What this vaccine does particularly well is trigger both arms of the immune system,” he said.
FINALLY! Some friggin’ good news! I’m on system overload reading about T rumpp’s smorgasbord of bullshit.
So much bullshit! I’m tired of all of his bullshit!
Moderna which cratered a few weeks ago to under 50 bucks has risen up to the 90s last Friday. This mornig it was down 12 bucks. Novavax was the real winner stock wise. It shot from single digits to over $150.00. I’d like to buy long term put options over a year out on both of them. AstraZeneca is the one I feel will win long term. They have collected the most money in pre-orders from at least 4 European countries and the US. AstraZeneca has been paid over two billion from the US and four European countries for a billion doses so so far. That’s before the large trial even started,
I have a question that sounds a bit crazy perhaps but - if all of us get vaccinated, then we’ll have immunity and won’t be affected by those nuts who refuse to get vaccinated, correct?
The study for the Moderna vaccine also showed a higher antibody response after the 2nd dose. Similar side-effects as well.
For all of these vaccines the proof lies in your last sentence. Do these vaccine actually protect against infection? Lessening the impact of an infection would be sufficient, of course. Reducing the severity of a Covid19 case so that far fewer people become gravely sick and/or die would be enough.
Actually, now that I think about it, a Covid19 vaccine that only protected against the severity of the sickness would prompt the fight with the anti-vaxxers that this country has needed to have for far too long. Those idiots need to be forced to take their medicine for their good and for ours.
2 Billion doses, at $10/dose ($500/dose in the USA.)
Now you know why they have been scrambling to produce a viable vaccine.
Although, if Jared the Wonder Boy and President Cartman don’t get their “cut” of the profits, they will probably block the vaccine in the US in favor of one they have a financial interest in.
We likely will not all have perfect immunity. And even that immunity might wear off. Meanwhile, if the virus is still widely circulating it might also be mutating.
So we really need everybody to get vaccinated, but still continue testing & contact tracing to isolate cases.
This is good news to be sure. But the reality remains that vaccines that may be distributed world-wide need to be safe and effective which takes time to verify.
