Early Biden Wins In Delegate-Rich VA and NC Show Strength Of Southern Base | Talking Points Memo

Media and TPM too acting as if this is a surprise. It was a forgone conclusion. The early primaries and caucuses take place in small sparsely populated states that don’t come anywhere near an American average. So why do we give them so much credence? It’s always been this way.

People are waking up. Biden is not the best prospective POTUS in the field. I think most of us gather that but we do know that Biden has the best shot at beating Trump. Trump’s just such an awful man it’s not possible to get him out of the picture even in a Democratic shindig. So its become about beating Trump and selecting the best tool for that. That’s Biden hands down.

Biden’s got to know this. He’ll need to select a Veep that attracts peoples politics and not be just another gun to take Trump down. If he does that, does his 4 and then hands over the baton…I’d say it’s the first time in a long time the Democrats actually had their shit together.

“Democratic Socialist” is an unfortunate choice of words. I’m surprised Sanders still identifies as one. Sanders is NOT a socialist. Folks, look up the definition of that word. He’s admiring of social democracy like that in the Scandinavian countries or my home The Netherlands. No one in Holland considers themselves a socialist but their political ideas align closely with Sanders. That word, socialist, has destroyed Sanders.

He’s not one but he labeled himself that way and that’s why he’ll NEVER obtain national office.

Amazing turnout in VA. Simply amazing. And it’s happening in most states.

Trump is shitting glass shards right now because he knows Biden will kick his ass with landslides. That is what the turnout is telling Mango Mussolini tonight.

Biden is over performing the polls and pulling out upsets with a win in MN, while either winning or coming close in MA and ME.

Trump knows who his opponent is… and he’s scared shitless.

Seems to me South Carolina has convinced many Democrats that Biden’s the guy, and have begun the process of coalescing behind him -for the common goal of defeating Trump and taking our country back.

So, this is not a good day for Trump. As much as they’re trying to push the “Dems in chaos” line, actually, the opposite is happening. Voting lines are long all across the country, almost as if this is a dry run for the real thing in November. Our people are highly motivated, and if we turn out, we will win. Trump should be worried.

I was watching MSNBC and saw obscenely long lines of voters in TX. It looks like the GOP has gone to extreme lengths to make it outrageously difficult to vote, but the voters of TX are determined people who are demanding democracy. TX, you are beautiful. It looks to me like Biden is going to eke out a win in TX, because he’s been trailing there but just took a tiny lead.

Only in UT and VT does BS beat JB by more than the Bloomberg Margin

And Bloomberg aint siphoning votes from BS

Headline really should read “…Shows Strength of Southern Base Among Democrats.”
I’m not at all sure this will translate to the general election.
Sanders would have the same problem.

Every Bernie supporter I know will vote for Biden against Trump.
Well, there is this one guy … but he’s an outlier.

Because in almost all past primaries since 1976, the early states (especially Iowa and New Hampshire) managed to pick the winner. Also, had Klobuchar and Butttigieg dropped out even one day latter, things would have gone very differently last night.

It was part of “The Grand Bargain” movement. It’s complicated - but yeah - he was willing to ‘reform’ it.

No one EVER ‘cuts’ any part of any social program. They only ever ‘reform’ it.

So this morning I woke to the thought that it’s all going to come down to Vice Presidential selection.

And not just who the Dem’s select.

Rumors and rumblings abound on the 'tubes that Pence will be dumped after he botches the coronavirus response. (Well… no one could have predicted that) Nikki Hailey will be appointed "THE FIRST FEMALE VICE PRESIDENT IN HISTORY!!! (nor a candidate, an actual veep) This is planned to happen during the Dem convention. The tinfoil hat society has it on reliable sources McConnell and his backers know Trump is poison - but with Hailey in play for the Trump re-election - and Trump assured that he’ll be pardoned by her - then they’ll have a new - improved -socially acceptible young vibrant puppet to carry their water.

Who will our nominee pic?

As a screenwriter - it’s a perfect plot twist.

Inquiring minds want to know.

This is my issue, dude’s winning most of the states that we mostly can’t win in November. Somehow, this is a good thing? It’s gonna be even better when the party does not a fucking thing (again) to bring younger voters who very fucking clearly do not want Biden, back into the fold because we need them to win this fall. What’s the plan to get them engaged in the process enough to not just go about their lives on 11/3?

“Social Democrat” is the label you are seeking – for Scandinavian politics…“Democratic Socialist” means “socialist” – government owns and manages the means of production. Bernie, in his petulant arrogance, has chosen never to clarify this. But he has hijacked the label “Democratic”, which would paint a big, fat, losing target on his back in the general election. Thank God for primary elections – where is the “Movement” turnout bump.

not sure of the advantage of winning a state in the primary that will go for trump in the election, the south is pretty much made up of red states.Seems like Biden is winning states that we can’t win for the most part in the national election. Sanders is winning the states that will vote democratic. as far as the middle Atlantic states go, the populous ones have not voted yet - NY and NJ and Pennsy. .

I do believe that Biden is a weak candidate, but that is just me apparently.

Bernie Sanders has not advocated for government ownership of the means of production. As I said I grew up in the Netherlands ( a social Democracy with a token Monarchy ) so I get the concept.
