shorter Brees…‘Oops’
getting to be?
this
Fuck you, Drew.
Fair point…
Getting a little tired of these over the top claims of ‘respect’ for the flag and service from people who never had the personal courage to put on the uniform in the first place; especially when they use this position to bash other Americans for merely exercising their First Amendment Rights.
At this point, equating Kaepernick’s taking a knee with disrespecting the the flag is a willful act of blindness. It’s telling him and anyone who takes a knee, no, you don’t get to tell us what you mean with your own actions and words: “We” (trump and his jackbooted supporters) get to assign meaning to your actions and words and that’s the end of it. It’s ignorant and lends cover to a bullshit, racist narrative that trump wants promoted. I’m glad Brees apologized in no uncertain terms.
He’s subsumed in the false narrative that the red hats foisted upon America while targeting Kaepernick.
They did a scary good job of casting this as an issue about the flag and jingo was his name-o pseudo-patriotism and not about the consistent violation of the civil rights of people of color.
I think I would’ve reached for the word ‘bubba’ long before I got to ‘enlightened’.
Nothing to understand. It was faux outrage from the start. Everything gets politicized these days - even wearing mask during a pandemic! This was a smorgasbord for right-wing outrage. And they played it for all it was worth. They couldn’t give two shits whether someone follows the anthem ritual. I’m sure the “outrage” was aided and abetted by Russian trolls.
Another Clueless, Entitled, (and very, VERY wealthy) White Man who owes his entire career to strong black men protecting his exposed back “suddenly” realizes he has ignorantly stepped in it and has his press office issue a tepid, non-apology apology.
Good luck with that.
Drew Brees’s grandfathers didn’t ‘sacrifice’ for the flag.
I also figure–esp. for a QB–they’d do something to support (and earn respect from) the linemen who literally protect them.
(Although, now that I think about it a bit (I’m probably opening a can o’ worms I’d rather not), what’re the racial breakdowns of NFL offensive linemen? They may be whiter than I thought when I started writing this…)
Perhaps, Larry Warford, Terron Armstead, Cameron Tom, Patrick Omameh and Andrus Peat precipitated our poster boy’s epiphany.
Will your friend vote for Trump again?
Seems that Brees has taken one too many blows to the head.
Let’s be clear-
Non-deputized, un-badged Federal Corrections guards should not be applying Prison tactics to American Citizens exercising their rights. Nor should they be deployed without any identifying insignia, mixing with un-badged DOJ contracted security who also lack the same training and accountability.
Period. Full Stop. EOM.
It really means a lot when you stop and think and then say something thoughtful. It means WAAAAY less when you say something stupid (aka you should definitely have known better), get called out for being an asshole, and then have your lawyer ask everyone to forgive you.
No, I don’t think I will. Stew in your shit pot for a little longer, Drew.
From NFL player and Green Beret, Nate Boyer who after a personal discussion convinced Kaepernick to “take a knee” instead of just sitting during the anthem -
“And, you know, people - in my opinions and in my experience, kneeling’s never been in our history really seen as a disrespectful act. I mean, people kneel when they get knighted. You kneel to propose to your wife, and you take a knee to pray. And soldiers often take a knee in front of a fallen brother’s grave to pay respects. So I thought, if anything, besides standing, that was the most respectful. But, of course, that’s just my opinion.”
I am not so sure. He obviously realized that he pissed of his co-workers and in his line of work that is not a good thing. But I doubt that he has any new understanding the underlying reason of Kap’s protest and why it had to be done during the national anthem on national TV. He probably still thinking: "Why Kap can’t just protest in the privacy of his bedroom?
