Knock, knock!
Who’s there?
Karma, the Bitch!
Cuffari is Donnie’s choice and appointee: would you expect anything less than the betrayal of the operation’s normal understandings?
IT professional here.
SERVER MIGRATIONS ARE SUPPOSED TO PRESERVE DATA, NOT FUCKING ERASE IT
Should have stopped right there.
WTF are you quoting from? There was no server migration. There was a phone upgrade, just like you do every 2-4 years when your old phone breaks, wears out, or you just want the new shiny.
deleted their text on purpose, knowing that the data migration would wash it all away
Nobody is accused of deleting a text on purpose. What is stated is that individual phone posessors were responsible for backing up anything needed off the old phone before they were given a new one, and very few, if any, bothered. Phones aren’t computers. Nobody needs that text from last year, unless of course, congress ordered you to preserve that text from last year. But no one told the phone posessors of those preservation orders. That failure to communicate is something that should get some people fired and/or indicted.
That’s nice. Where was the server migration? They replaced old phones. That’s it.
It smells like Secret Service agents didn’t want their wives and daughters to become the objects of Rightist, graphic, rape-murder fantasies.
Interesting because my new phone not only didn’t lose a single thing I didn’t delete on purpose, it generated duplicate photos and triplicate contacts from a dormant cloud storage. The whole think stinks.
Government phones are going to be much more locked down than retail phones. All that invasive autocloud crap is blocked.
“I’ve had it up to here with us not playing hardball and firing these losers.”
Me too.
And, according to law, ought to have robust and automagic backup capabilities that don’t depend on specific actions by the users. This is your federal government, not some fly by night, cooked books business. It ain’t New York real estate.
Then where are the physical old phones? I mean the US gov’t is slow, usually, did they park them in warehouse 13?
Cite the law. Remember, these are secret service field agents doing personnel protection. No one gives a fuck about their lunch planning last year. I’ll bet where any law does apply it goes the other direction, to prohibiting phones from automatically communicating with third party systems that could be mined for agents’ practices when on duty.
Not known, but the expectation would be sold in bulk, assigned to more junior employees, or destroyed. Whatever the final destination, it is known that they were factory reset. This is a normal thing to do when moving to a new phone, once you’re confident the new phone is up and working.
Isn’t the typical process for doing a phone refresh to transfer everything to the new phone, then do a wipe of the old phone? I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t first transfer all their current phone contents to the new phone. With an iPhone the process is trivially easy.
So how long will it be until someone rats out IG Joe Cuffari on the cover up?
It’s already out there. The better question is when is he held accountable for his misdeeds.
Maybe HR can require him to take an immediate three week vacation because he has too many outstanding vacation days. ETA He seems like the kind of guy who can never leave the office because he always has to handle a new cover up.
If you were the slowest wit in the room and you followed this cavalcade of intentional actions to obstruct and shut down a critical investigation, you would have to conclude the Secret Service is working for the Don and the inspector General should be going to trial…nobody is this bad at their job…this man is in cahoots with criminals.
The DHS inspector general’s office drafted a statement that would have alerted Congress to the lost text messages at least a month earlier, but ultimately chose not to publish it.
He had nothing to gain by sending a letter saying “We destroyed the evidence and you will never find it. Nanner nanner nanner”
