Dozens Of State Lawmakers Sign Letter Calling For MAGA Audit Of All 50 States | Talking Points Memo

I used to believe this country would fall to a fascist dictator in four presidential elections, at most. I was optimistic. It’s now two. We’re screwed.

The problem with these people making this statement is that their intent is for “accurate and fair” to require a Republican to win the election. Any election that they don’t win is suspect in their view, and their entire plan is to remove the actually accurate and fair election system we currently have and replace it with a corrupt dictatorship with “elections”, just like the USSR, Russia, or any other fake democracy run by dictators. The Republican party is quickly becoming the enemy of democracy but trying to cover it up…the question is if the people are paying enough attention to keep them from power.

The other interesting point here is the call for the US House to vote to overturn the election results. Anyone want to take odds on that vote happening if Republicans take over? Can you just imagine the chaos if they actually hold that vote and try to overturn the election in fealty to Trump? 2022 and 2024 are shaping up to be pivotal years in our democracy, which makes it even more maddening that two Democratic senators are keeping any election reforms from happening…without federal intervention we really may lose our democracy.

Dozens? Out of 7400. How does this small band of loonies merit any media coverage?

Yup, there’s an issue here, not a big one yet obviously but it’s there. These gutless opportunists know that they might ride the lie to higher office and more power.

On the other hand, early warnings are important. Let’s take names.

You’re too optimistic. We will lose it. That is a certainty.

Election truther Mark Finchem, a signatory and state representative from Arizona, is Donald Trump’s pick to be that state’s next secretary of state. Finchem began selling t-shirts over the summer with the phrase “#proveit” — as in, “prove that there was no fraud in the election.”

Was proved.

I’m perfectly OK with this under one condition:

Every legislator who signs this and pushes it forward will pay an equally divided share of the cost of the audit from his own pocket IF it is shown that the election results are fair and correct. If it is shown that President Joe Biden was shorted votes that were legitimately cast - the fees will be doubled.

Since they all “believe” that there was rampant fraud against Trump - they should have no problem with this condition.

You beat me to it:

From the article:

[“Dozens of state lawmakers from around the country have signed onto a letter falsely referring to the 2020 elections as ‘corrupted’ and insisting on “forensic audits” in all 50 states.”]

Numbers and % of total, please.

To whom is this ludicrous “letter “ addressed?

The real problem is the loonies are doing what Trump wants out loud, while the vast majority of the Republican party is doing what Trump wants quietly, in fear of him and his minions. That’s why this is news…those Republicans know this is garbage but refuse to say so, and odds are they will soon go along with this as well, and continue to go along with new laws that allow the overturning of elections. We can’t ignore this because it’s idiotic nonsense, it’s the vanguard of the Republican party policy in 2022 and 2024, and further if they get away with cheating in our elections.

Guaranteed: if he does become SoS, he winds up in federal prison for the shit he pulls during the first election he presides over.

Some of the signatories, I believe, may have added their names in order to appear more appealing to Trump devotees. A completely political decision.

This is the prelude to the republican theft of the coming elections, where they refuse to accept any election results but the ones that put them in power. Republicans understand that demographics and radicalization have made them unelectable by popular vote, next up non stop insurrections, coups and election interference. Conservatives are done with majority rule when they are not the majority, they will only participate in democracy if it rewards them, conservatives will never accept minority status or temper their radical ideology to address the needs of the many.

True, but the people who are convinced the election system is corrupted, the folks who are uncertain that the system is working are Republicans. I doubt a single Biden voter questions whether the vote was legitimate or doubts the outcome of the election.

Political violence in this country began in the 1700s and probably before that. Political violence is nothing new. However, you’re correct that nothing will satisfy these people. Fuck em. Let them spend the rest of their lives unsatisfied.
