I could not pretend to analyze it beyond thinking that antisemitism seems to be at the core of all aspiring autocrats. Part of it seems to include pandering to their base that is anti-everybody who’s not white, northern European extraction.

Fascism exists because blaming Others for all of Das Volk’s problems has inherent appeal to our lizard brains. I can’t tell you exactly why the Other-ing so frequently settles on Jews, but it sure seems to be the outcome of every descent down the conspiratorial rabbit trail.
I was about to except the JFK assassination from that rule, but a quick search established that people were blaming it on the Jews no later than 48 hours afterward.

As one of those atheist Jews who kinda groks the whole Wailing Wall scene, having that effing ahole there just buggers the mind. I’m surprised he didn’t put a note in asking for special deal with God coz how great he’s been to the Jews. "Hell, I even let one marry my daughter fer chrissakes! So what’s in it for Me, God, what kinda deal does that get Me?

I’m totally with you. I’m not sure if you know but I lived in Israel way back when. I often went to Jerusalem but only looked at the goings on at the Wailing Wall from above. As an agnostic I didn’t feel it was something to participate in. My politics were already leaning towards a two state solution.

Trump is increasingly unfiltered in public statements, showing his long-held inner beliefs and delusions. This will get uglier, as anyone who has dealt with an aging parent with declining mental facilities knows. Trump will become exceedingly vindictive and is inarguably unfit to serve as President.

I don’t suppose it’s the actual answer to the question: “Why the Jews?” But, for what it’s worth, blaming the Jews is the one, perhaps the only thing that both the European Catholics, and their arch enemies, the Protestants, agreed upon. I mean, the Roman Catholics taught it that way nearly from the beginning, and, even though they rejected much of the Catholic Church’s dogma, the Protestants hung on to that bit, maybe tighter than the Catholics did.

The first century or so of Christianity’s existence consisted largely of a big argument over what Christianity was and what its relationship was to the Chosen People and everyone else. Paul/Saul’s decision to work on converting the Gentiles because the Jews mostly weren’t having it seems to have led to some pretty strong resentment of the folks who declined to see Jebus as the Messiah.

I think you make a good point, re: on what European Catholics and Protestants could both agree. 
My totally-Gentile take was going to be that, except for Israel itself, no place on Earth had a sufficient quantity of Jews to need to worry about defending one’s anti-Semitic self from a large, majority-Jewish mob. IOW, they’d always be(en) a ‘safe’, minority upon which to punch down.

I suspect Hitler simply internalized all the antisemitic tropes of the period.
He believed Germany had to surrender to the Allies in WW1 because she was “stabbed in the back”. A Rothchild bank handled Germany’s money for the Kaiser.
That was more “proof” that she was stabbed in the back. You know, Jews “behind the scenes”.
