The Justice Department filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to block the publication of former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s book, which is scheduled for release next week.
Cooper said in a Wall Street Journal op-ed that the White House’s claims were a “transparent attempt to use national security as a pretext to censor Mr. Bolton, in violation of his constitutional right to speak on matters of the utmost public import.”
The 1st Amendment seems to be causing all sorts of problems for the Trump Administration, from the rights of protesters to the bar on prior restraints of free speech. Also, the people in this Administration are very, very slow readers. They have had a 500-page book for six months and haven’t finished it yet?
Wouldn’t work. The way publishing works, there would already be hundreds of advance copies out there. They might be partially redacted, or be an earlier version minus some edits, but the bulk of it is in a lot of peoples’ hands. If they raided the publisher, someone with a copy might just decide that it’s time to leak what they have.
“The DOJ lawsuit requests that a court order Bolton to seek a delay in the release date of the book and that Bolton instruct his publisher to take “all available steps to retrieve and dispose of any copies” of the book that have been distributed to third parties.”
Here’s hoping those advance copies are already well distributed.
When I saw this on CNN.
“Bolton’s book has already shipped to warehouses ahead of its scheduled release.”
My immediate thought was it’s a little too late to stop it now even if they pulp it.
Someone is bound to have hold of it who will leak it.
