The Times reported that some attorneys in the National Security Council and Justice Department were concerned that opening a criminal case would be seen as a political act.

I thought this was a serious piece until I read that and realized that it came from the Onion.

As much as I enjoy watching scorpions fight in a bottle, these are some scary moves by Barr.

Well I can definitely say that Bolton deserves to go to prison, but I was hoping it would be one in the Netherlands.

Well if there has to be a gross miscarriage of justice committed by Trump’s criminals at the DOJ, let John Bolton be the victim.

Guantanamo would be a much more fitting destination for that SOB.

well, the discovery process surrounding the efforts to quash the subpoena should be fun…

Bolton should have testified during the impeachment rather than holding out for his book, so I have no sympathy for him.

However, this is obviously a corrupt Barr DoJ lashing out at Trump’s enemies while they can still do so. The ship is sinking and the crew is flailing under incompetent leadership.

Uber-Asshole Bolton uncompromising ways left him with no friends at all.

Criminal subpoenas do not elicit any responsive discovery efforts.

This is a very desperate move for Barr and it won’t end well for him. I no fan of John Bolton, but the man does his homework and Barr has no real case here. This will look very bad for both Barr and his DOJ in every respect as this case trie to proceed.

But in that opinion, D.C. District Judge Royce Lamberth castigated Bolton, saying that his decision to publish the book without receiving final notice from the White House that its review of classified information was complete “raises grave national security concerns.”

Will someone tells those “concerned” that the ship has sailed? EVERYTHING the NSC and the Justice Department does under Trump IS political.

Any truth to rumors that DOJ has reached a plea-deal agreement with Bolton’s mustache?

Using the DOJ to target a critic like this is of course outrageous and constitutes Assault on the Constitution and Democratic Norms nr. 1,252,340 by the Trump administration. That said, couldn’t have happened to a better guy. #ETTD.

Better hire a food taster. Ask Navalny. While it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, political opposition Is now a crime in our “great” nation whilst coverups are rewarded. This is American exceptionalism today. I’m not sure it’s fixable.
Woodward might also want to watch his back.

As I recall a career official reviewed the book for security concerns and cleared it, and then a Trump flunky jumped in to demand another review.
