Bureaucratic lag. The president has to give Congress thirty-days notice before firing an IG and he has to provide a valid reason for the firing. Reasons thus far have included “He’s icky”, “I don’t like him”, and “He’s lost my confidence”.

Not only what Marcy said, but all that money to develop the vaccine candidates comes from taxpayers and a lot of the original research is carried out at publicly funded universities. Smells like socialism to me, Nikki.

The IGs I worked with in my civil service career were first rate professionals. I didn’t always agree with them or their findings, and had a few real bureaucratic fights with a few, but never questioned their integrity and independence.
What the Trump regime political types do to suppress investigations and twist findings is another matter altogether (note that I said “types” rather than “appointees”, as most of these sham officials were never approved by Congress, which is a pretty minimal standard). Trump treats accountability as if it was a fatal disease, which it probably would be for his crew.

There’s no profit in R&D. Companies have to put money into an R&D department, and they never get any revenue out of the department. Clearly, capitalism dictates that it’s an unnecessary waste and, thus, most R&D is handled by public universities and sold to the pharmaceutical companies after the hard work has been done (and profitably has been established).

I think Barr is using Durham for his own political ends, and Durham’s former good reputation will suffer for it. One thing I think I can safely say is that if the report is issued before the election is was always and only about advancing Republican partisan ends.
