Yes, Colbert is a talented, national treasure. How he performed this in less than 24 hours after the Palin gig -who knows, he is brilliant.

Current Palin is not as vibrant. Showing her years as most of us do.

I haven’t watched SNL since the 70s but this morning as I was waking up, when I first saw Tina on the news, I almost thought it was Palin. She nailed it.,

OMG. Thank you. I needed that. He is beyond briliant. I loved his tasering his brain first.

The word “brilliant” is hugely overused, and people often just mean “I liked that” when they say it, but with lots of smart people doing comedy he goes a couple of levels beyond everyone in his braininess and imagination. But he’s still the naughty-smart class clown guy who cracks his own self up pretty often. Very likable too. All part of his brilliance.

But in Colbert’s case it is true - I don’t know how else to describe it other than brilliant.

The thing I didn’t like about this was that it made Trump look like he has some common sense when he actually doesn’t.

I can see why they wanted to try handling it that way but I don’t think it worked more than once, the time he said “she’s crazy” and they cut to her gibbering. Otherwise it broke up the rhythm and his material wasn’t nearly as good. Or his impression of the voice, either. Other than all that it was great. : (

That made too much sense to be Sarah Palin.

I know that chunks of it were from Palin’s endorsement verbatim, but as a whole it sounded far more coherent than Palin actually did. And far less frenetic and unhinged in tone than Palin was.

Don’t get me wrong, Tina Fey is really good at this. Reality has just become too weird for anyone to satirize it anymore.

Having him do facial expressions behind her might have been better and would have let Tina run a little freer.

I would have had Trump’s character saying things like, “Sing it Sister!”, or simply “YES!” while fist pumping with no cutaway from Fey or disruption of her flow. But hey, I’m not a writer for SNL, so…

And yeah, it was great.

I didn’t watch the entire real endorsement, because life is hard enough, but I imagine he stood there like a dope and made faces the whole time. It was really weird, even just for a minute, to see him just standing there pointlessly.

Yea he doesn’t do second banana. He kind of wonderfully sucks at it.

It would be impossible to comedically improve on Palin’s “right-wingin’, bitter clingin’” riff, and in fact Fey cut it short right at the point where it starts to get truly jaw-dropping. Maybe she thought running that far with it would be too mean-spirited or on-the-nose?

I only watched a highlight, and Trump clearly looked uncomfortable. And Palin was truly off-the-chain, droolingly batshit incoherent.

It’s hard to do a parody of what already is a parody. That said, Fey and Hammond were superb.

Yeah I mean just think of that part you mention where Palin’s lack of making any sense truly went airborne – satire usually works by exaggeration, but how could you write anything that made less sense than that? Maybe just standing there going “Goo garble gah! Clingery bittery gunsulwoppers!”, would be the only way to be more word-salady than Palin, but I’m not sure how funny it would be. Palin really just outran satire, at least until satire learns how to catch up, somehow.
